There used to be a saying that went, "All politics ends at the border." This meant that whatever political fighting went on inside the country, we would present a common front to the rest of the world. This, thanks to worldwide cable, a 24/7 news cycle, and a lot of bubbleheaded egotists who feel a need to speak out, is no longer true.

But this really is a tricky question. The problem is that at this point, not supporting the war basically puts you in the position where you are essentially in agreement with Osama, al-Qaeda and the jihadists. Not a good position to be in.

Unfortunately, because of this vocal opposition, regardless of whether you agree with this assessment or not, it gives support to the enemies of America, and to the enemies of Iraqi freedom and democracy.

Like the anti-war protests during Vietnam gave the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese reason to hope and hold on rather than sue for peace, the vocal (and sometimes irrational) opposition to the current US action in Iraq gives the insurgents and jihadists confidence that the US is weak-willed and will eventually cut and run. This in turn encourages them to increase their attacks for the benefit of CNN and the news cycle. This causes more deaths of innocent Iraqis and US soldiers.

You can disagree with this assessment, but it doesn't make it any less true.

The time for opposition was before the troops were deployed. And the Democrats did not oppose it, though now they say they did. Once troops are deployed and the firing has started, the only reasonable action is to support the push for victory. This in turn strengthens our position, demonstrates to the enemies our will, thus removing their hopes of victory, and could possibly result in a quicker victory, with less casualties and a quicker return home.

I'm not questioning your patriotism. I'm just illustrating the ill-effects of not supporting war, once it has already begun.

Great answer turboweegie!

If people think they can come on this forum and attack the president and his policies, the reasons for us being in Iraq, and the methods we use to fight this war, and think they can make it alright by saying they "support the troops" though, they are deluding themselves. This site is full of anti-American Islamic extremists conducting an ant-war propaganda campaign, who love nothing more than to see Americans so divided. The more who voice the negative opinions, the more that jump on the bandwagon. We believe in free speech but we hope for some common sense to go with it. Sometimes you just cant have it both ways. If you have a problem with the conduct of this war and truly want to support our troops you should try another means to effect the changes you believe are necessary. We should be keeping this "within the family".

No supporting the war is one thing but supporting the soldiers over there is another.

I have heard a lot of people say that because they don't support the war they don't support our troops. That is just wrong. At first I supported the war and its cause...then as the government changed the reasons to be there I stopped worrying about the war and started hoping to bring our soldiers home safely.

They are there on orders they didn't jump up and say oo oo i want to spend the next 6 years way from my family so I can go to war.
They were sent there by higher authorities and we need to support our troops.

What makes us patriotic is loving our country and waving our flag and telling the world the we are Americans and we have our freedoms and we have our opportunities and supporting those who defends our country. That is what makes us patriotic.

Support the war or not...BUT ALWAYS SUPPORT YOUR TROOPS:)

Would you support the war if your own house & family were
constantly under attack by a foreign nation or group ?
How about one of your friends or neighbors houses & family ?
Is it because you are safe & insulated from attack that
you simply don't care about people you don't know being killed ?
You want everyone to make nice ?
You want people to stop flying planes into tall buildings ?
Are you unpatriotic or are you a coward ?

So many of you are blinded. Anyone who supports the war is ignorant, anyone who thinks that changing the President will result in a change of international policy is ignorant. Irregardless of whether your President is Republican or Democratic they are all funded by the same corporate ideas. The CIA, FBI, Council on Foreign Relations, Federal Reserve Bank and many other organisations all control American domestic and foerign policy, and until these organisations are cleansed of all the war-for-profit suits that control them, America will always be in wars. And their citizens will always be distracted by sporting events, the latest trends, and the wonder of internet chat rooms.

To be "Patriotic" is to love and sacrafice for one's country.

Do you love your country? Are you willing to sacrafice for
the benefit of your country?

However, "your country" is really a very complicated entity
sometimes lead by idiots. Unfortunately, those idiots have
the ability to order its fighting forces to put themselves in
harms way with apparently little thought to the consequences.

If you don't love your country, by all means, find somewhere
else. However, if you do love it, fight like hell to make sure
that it does the right things in your opinion and don't let
people tell you that disagreement is unpatriotic.

The First Ammendment, the lead item to the Bill of Rights
says that you have the right to state your disagreement.

I argue that you have not only the right to, but the obligation
to.

If YOU don't vote, if YOU don't voice your opinion, then at
least from your point of view, it isn't a democracy.

Do not assume, however, that everyone will agree with you!

No, but it is in how they act. Speaking out against the war is not wrong or unpatriotic. Laying down in front of military transports and other similar tactics are.

No, it makes them more of a patriot. Standing up for what you believe does not make a person unpatriotic.
