Religion was created to instill morals into the people who follow it. Rather than laws created by kings and rulers, religion is a moral code supposedly created by a higher being and therefore infallable. In the past, all groups have been equally wrong, from Christians killing muslims in the crusades, to islamic extremists trying to kill christians. Missionaries giving bibles to starving nations instead of food to preferrential treatment of certain religions in various societies.
Now that humans have the firepower to destroy large chunks of the planet at a time, religious differences could bring about the destruction of the people it was originally meant to protect.
Dont think im aiming this towards islam, im sure if the pope issued a statement saying that breathing is a sin, 75% of Catholics would suffocate. Its a problem with religion, the fact that almost no religion tolerates or aknowledges any other is bound to create problems

problems like global warming came about because man did not have to knowedge on what effect pollution had on the environment. The world is working at it and now developing cleaner technologies to counteract this.
Religion on the other hand is an idea, created by man or higher being, in which the world cannot sit down and resolve, mainly because everyone is allowed to have thier own ideas.
It all comes down to education. Islamic extremists are not necessarily evil, they are just taught that way. Had anyone in the US or abroad been born in a region where this was the dominant religion, then they too would be waging a jihad with christianity, democracy, and america. the key is to teach tolerance. That is the only solution I see.
Im not attacking anyones religion, because everyone is allowed to believe what they want

Agreed. Anything that separates people is bound to lead to destruction. In this sense, the stakes are very high for all mankind.

Disagree, I'm a breathing Catholic that thinks it's MAN not religion or religions that will lead to the destructive end. How about global warming? How much of the small variations affected the hurricane season last year? Katrinia. Check out the weather patterns today. The UN has the WFP which nations that recieve it may keep it and sell it to there populations (North Korea, several African countries?) Check out North Korea for a very good example no religion there Atheistic state right? Folks die in the street from starvation and WFP bags are in the market places marked way to high for the general population and Kim Jung's table. Greed, Ego, Lack of compassion, and Violence are all humanity's problems we do it, all us. I seriously doubt any religion teaches that as the way to go. Get real and look at the problems and the solutions- stop blaming Islam or Christianity or anyone else's religion. The Terrorists aren't really following their religion it's another goal World Domination and Control. It is a global humanitarian problem thourghly

I agree that a lot of evil is being done in the name of religion, however;Your definition of ´´christian´´ is kind of faulty.
A christian is a follower of Jesus. He never did any harm to anybody but went about doing good to many people. The ´crusaders´ were followers of the pope. If any body belongs to God or is a disciple of Jesus they´ll do the good works of God. The gospel is about the good news of the coming kingdom of God which is the only perfect rule this world is about to see. You can be part of the only solution of the problems you see in this world by becoming a disciple of Jesus. God bless you and yours!!!

You are incorrect. Religion is merely the method we choose to worship God. It's not created to instill morals.
It's the people who are not really following their religious beliefs that are the problem, now and in the past. All religions teach peace with one another, but people can be unscrupulous and use religion to obtain power, rather than understanding.

I disagree.cause many people in the prophets time didn't accept them.so after a long time who could be sure what a religion is saying is right.so the prolem is not the relegion it's the way world is usuing it.like starting crusade that they want to give the holy field of the christ.
also i belive relegions has the power the protect us.world hasn't a day without war because we do not do what our relegion says.

Humans have been misusing and abusing the word of God since Adam. Religion cannot destroy anything---it is an idea. People do the destroying, and the weapon of choice is pride. Pride comes from the devil and he is the originator of sin. It is the devil that seeks to destroy the world, not God. Jesus loves you.

The fighting and nuclear power developed today was predicted in the bible. What is going on in Israel is also played out in the Bible. As cliche as it sounds...religion doesn't kill people, people kill people.

From what can be seen in history books and the terrorists, most probably yes. If we don't die from a disease or plague, we would probably die getting caught in the crossfire of the inevitable religion wars.
