Depends on where you go. Private dentists can charge whatever they feel like. I used to work in a surgery which is NHS and private, and while a check up on the NHS is about £6, privately it cost £20. You do get much better treatment going privately. I think its worth it.

I had this discussion with my mate only last week! She goes private, I did but then went back to NHS cos I was skint. There is not much difference to be honest! I wanted a white filling and it cost me £40.00. It was private on the NHS if you know what I mean! The check up probs saved me about £20.00! My old private dentist was lovely - I went back in the end, my nerves couldnt cope with it!!(I hate dentists)

The NHS have three charges £15.50, £42.40 and the most you can pay on the Nhs £189.00. If you go private it is more expensive approx £25.00 for a check up and around £70/80.00 for a white filling.
