It means nothing.
If you did your stretching, kept to a sensible workout program and are otherwise healthy and well nourished; it means you have had a workout which will probably be more beneficial than harmful.
Otherwise, overall fitness and stamina are a better guide to whether your workouts are working. Even if they are tailored to suit weight-loss, muscle-increase or skills-training.

It means that you have worked out a lot.
It's good when you're muscles are tired after exercise, but aching often means you overdid it. When it hurts, you should take a break
When you're muscles are aching, it means that your muscles created lactic acid, due to not enough oxygen, which can give muscle aches.
It's also possible that your muscles have little torns on micro level because of the workout. In that case, your muscles have to repair themselves afterwords. Althoug it is said that after the restoration more muscle fibres are made, thus resulting in muscle growth.
You canhave both a well. The little torns aren't that bad, since it results in more muscle mass, but the lactic acid is a waste product. It's not dangerous, but the muscle needs to rest to get rid of the lactic acid

The aching should be gone after 1-2 days. Working out with aching muscles is not good, since you won't give your muslces the chance to restore themselves

Too much exercise can be harmful. The body needs sufficient rest, which is why most health experts say one should exercise every other day or 3 times a week. Without proper rest, the chance of stroke or other circulation problems increases, and muscle tissue may develop slowly.

Over-exercising does more harm than good. For many activities, especially running, there are also significant injuries that occur with poorly regimented exercise schedules. In extreme instances, over-exercising induces serious performance loss. Unaccustomed overexertion of muscles leads to rhabdomyolysis (damage to muscle) most often seen in new army recruits.

Stopping excessive exercise suddenly can also create a change in mood. Feelings of depression and agitation can occur when withdrawal from the natural endorphins produced by exercise occurs.

Physical exercise releases opioid peptides or endorphins, opiates that exhibit synergetic effects with other neurotransmitters, causing exercise euphoria, also known as "runners high", and causing addiction to physical exercise and possibly decreased sex drive. This usually leads to over-exercising and those suffering exercise addiction are often described as "gym rat", "gym addict", "exercise freak", etc.

Excess is unhealthy. Exercise should be controlled by each body's inherent limitations. While one set of joints and muscles may have the tolerance to withstand multiple marathons, another body may be damaged by 20 minutes of light jogging. This must be determined by each exerciser.

Soreness should settle in 4-8 hours after a good work out. If you feel pain during your workout or sooner than four hours, you are overworking yourself. Be sure to warm up, stretching is always good, do warm up sets with light weight if you are lifting, and high knees/butt-kicks if youare running. Also stretch aftre your workout, and be sure to have a cool down period of easier lifts or walking.

Yes, When you work out a layer of your muscle gets removed (which explains the ache) Then when the layer grows back it gets thicker/bigger. Which gives you bigger stronger muscles. Try not to overdo it though just build yourself up gradually or get some advice from someone at your local gym = )

No it doesnt. It means you were not properly warmed up with stretching and warm up sets. If it hurts the next day then yes you had a good workout!
