Talk to your apt. mgr....every apt I have ever lived in allowed me to make changes like that...you could get new laminate from lowes or home depot, or you could use ceramic tile. One thing I did for my bathroom countertop in a rental...I called a local metal fabrication biz (sheet metal) in town, told them what color I wanted and what finish (flat black)....they were even willing to bend it at 90 degree angles for the lip and backsplash. It wasn't a big counter...maybe 3 feet long...but it only cost me $10...I just had to cut my own hole for the sink which wasn't a big deal (tin snips did the trick). Just lay it down and caulk the edges.

Try shades of coffee and chocolate - and cream tones as well. Aceent with cafe and coffee art -can find some cute prints at Target etc. - maybe even a cute mug collection. I like orange with cream, brown, and touches of green or bright blue.

If you really can't change the tops then decorate in a colour that will tone them down a little......in other words nothing too dark that will throw the orange into contrast and make it stand out....hard to say without seeing the colour ....but safe to say keep to lighter colours. - good luck.

Like pumpkin orange or terracotta? If it's more like terracotta then I would say go with a Spanish or Mediterranean theme. Get some black wrought iron accessories (spice rack, wine rack etc) and some cobalt blue glass vases and put sunflowers in them!

if you do not like the color go over it with a formica or laminate in the color of your choice, a 12 ft stretch of counter using laminate costs about75 bucks, 2nd. choice buy vinyl floor blocks (self stick) type and layer over counter top and back splash, let seal and heal then coat with polyurethene lightly, seal all edges where water may be present with a silicone caulk and you set.there are many styles and designs to choose from.

the orange could be a blessing. you could really do a kind of terra cotta and maybe spanish hacienda theme here and it would work well with the counters. think clay pots, mexican tiles and wrought iron.
good luck and happy decorating

Have all white everywhere, or add some yellow. Just try to keep it simple. Blue looks good with orange as well. Good luck!

You could play it up by going with browns, yellows, and earth tone colors. Also a large wooden cutting board on it would break up the color. I think you could actually make it work. Good luck!
