should we allow them to go unchallenged?
I hate their shouting bullying bragging ways why cant they just talk quietly to people or do something constructive.

If they are making a rational argument, then I may listen, if I have the time.

I was in Gloucester, UK a few years back in the main square where a hawker was going about his business. I said to the chap next to me, "Bit of a nutter isn't he". He then stepped into the centre of the square and took over.

I've pulled off the road a couple of times in the past. Not to listen, but to allow these 'holy people' the opportunity to discuss their religion/philosophy. The second time was a memorable encounter.
As I suspected, the guy was nothing more than a street corner peddler of wares -- his religion -- and he wasn't buying anything! ;)
He soon became defensive and somewhat hostile as I began to ask questions about his faith while attempting to share mine with him.
I think if I came across the same guy today he would become so frustrated and angered that he may actually strike out.
Let this be a warning to those who wish to engage these sorts unless you are prepared to become a captive audience and quite possibly have to physically defend yourself.
The experience was quite fun, actually. He was a fundamentalist xtian 'know-it-all'. Hopefully I left him with some questions to ask himself.
Perhaps a seed was planted which has now grown into a mighty oak. However, I doubt it.
Once these types have been ensnared into the fundamentalist xtian drama they are difficult to reach; although, we must not give up hope for these people. Many of them *can* be reached, but it takes persistence, a strong desire to help ... and courage.
I believe my city passed an ordinance prohibiting this type of activity. I haven't seen these types in years.

Best Wishes!

I always wonder about this.

I have often seen members of the public making fun of street preachers, and wondered why they do it. It seems to me that they alienate alot of people.
But in the other hand, if they feel they have a calling to this then why should I object? If it reaches just one person then it must be a good thing. I wouldnt be that brave, and I dont know if it is right or not, but why should I stick my nose in?

It can be amusing to listen to ranting loonies for a few minutes. Always makes me feel better since no matter how down I might get sometimes, I can always take heart and tell myself that at least I'm not whacko like that street preacher.

Yes, I quite often listen. I think that if they have the guts to stand up there and talk about what the really believe in then I should do them the courtesy of listening. It does not mean that I agree with what they are saying though.

preaching in the streets is not bad after all. what makes some of them bad and making bad image to others are those who shamelessly asked for monetary support to unwanting by passers!

It's best not to talk to mad people.

They can turn nasty, you know.
