By humour we don't necessarily mean great one-liners especially not when they are aimed at us. Just a "hi" and a smile usually gets our attention.
The humour should come later to reel us in, and it works better if it's a little self-depreciating. Not low self-esteem level but just enough to show that you don't take yourself too seriously and are therefore not a prick.

It made me laugh none stop. I still laugh when i remember it. Am laughing right now. LOL
It definitley helped to break the ice..but nothing more. It might have been funny, but it was still Lame....very very lame.
