Anytime is good
I used to exercise on nights from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and it was good to relax my body after a stressful day. And in the mornings is good because it is like a shot of energy. When you start in the morning you feel sleepy but after exercise you are like in a rush.
It is good to exercise before lunch (like 12 p.m.) because you feel less guilty after eating hahahaha, well you feel more relaxed and enjoy better your meals.
I have tried all times of day and all times of day got a benefit.
My instructor told me the best time to exercise is...WHEN YOU HAVE TIME. It does not matter the time of day, it matters you exercise.

A lot of people say mornings. When you first get up in the morning, your body is still in a catabolic state. This will have a negative affect on any strength training you do. If you are just trying to lose weight. First thing in the day is best but understand a lot of weight that you lose is going to be muscle. Working out in the afternoon means that you're body will be in more of a metabolic state. If you're eating right, you should have the necessary fuel for your workout. If weight training, you should be able to lift more and feel like you have more energy.

My personal preference is afternoon but schedule dictates morning. Best thing is to eat a small amount of healthy carbs before heading to the gym.
