I would say a pug, but that's because they are my favorite breed. I would suggest trying to get an older dog, though. Puppies take a lot of time and patience. You do not want to leave them alone where they could get into trouble. Older dogs tend to come house trained and are calmer. You can find older dogs of either pugs or yorkies by doing a searcg for breed rescue groups.
Also, whoever told you that pugs are calm has never met a young pug. They are calm when they get older but in thier first years they are filled with a lot of energy ad will constantly want your attention. However, they are great dogs. They have a lot of personality and are extremly intelligent creatures, just don't think you'll be able to teach them tricks. Pugs tend to follow thier on set of rules. Pretty soon, you'll realize that the dog will have you trained.
They can also be tough dogs and are not as delicate as other small breeds, so if you do have kids over, the dog will able to play with them. As for the snoring, I've always found it comforting. It's like a reminder that some one is there.
Anyways, you should be the one making the descion; it is ultimatley yours to make. I just wish you many years of joy with any dog you choose.

I would go with the Yorkie for several long term reasons. The Yorkie, while being a ball of energy, can always be taught to calm down and learn the social ways of his new found 'pack' family. The pug on the other hand can learn this as well, but pugs tend to smell and snort and have all sorts of eye and respiratory problems in the future. Not cute.
Yorkies, however, always cute, old, young, whatever. They're cute.
My personal preference, but Yorkies.

I have a 9 mos old Yorkie and he has just calmed down considerably. He still has lots of energy and loves to play but not as much as a couple of months ago. Maybe it's the heat. lol The only time he barks is when he wants the cats to play with him or If I'm sitting on the couch he'll bark at my hand to get it to play with him also. He has so much personality. I'd have multitudes of Yorkies if I could. Sorry, I know nothing about Pugs at all. Enjoy your new pet which ever you decide to get.

It's called a pug/yorkie mix, or a mutt, or a mixed breed, or a Heinz 57.

Yorkie, the only con is that yorkies need much more attention than pugs and are also more sensitive, but on all other aspect it is definitely the yorkie. Pugs are kak.

if you're not interested in doing a lot of grooming or paying for a lot of grooming, i'd get a pug. but if you don't have a preference about that, then i'd get a yorkie b/c they're more fun and cuter.

I'd get a female Yorkiepoo (yorkie/poodle). They don't shed and they are very adaptable. Pugs can be cute, but they shed.
