When were you born, 1979? Israel has been in a state of war with it´s neighbors since 1948 (when the USSR existed), and israel´s enemys always had soviet backing and weapons. That didn´t help much in 63, 67 and 73, when Israel whoopped the combined armys of Egypt, Syria, Jordan Iraq and pretty much of all the arab countries in a matter of days every time. The lebanese government should tie up its pants and kick hezbollah out of Lebanon.

The Cuban crisis was when RUSSIA sent ships to Cuba loaded with missiles.They were going to put the sites on Cuba.Mr Kennedy said this was a little to close for comfort.He told the Russians to turn the ships round or face the consequences.It was very,very,close but the Russians turned the ships round and sent them back to Russia.Watch the film 10Days in October with Kevin Costner it explains all.

Nothing.USSR had never the capacity for a direct fight with USA or Israel.Its strength was it was under iron curtain and no body knew its actual power.It was only a paper tiger.When USSR collased only knew that they had limited power only,no long range nuclear capacity,missiles,air force and army.Its naval force is also limited.Economically it can not support a long or expensive war.USSR and USA might have made some secret agreement and finished Israel and Arab countries for sharing oil resources of libia and arab countries

To the poster who said Israel gets Soviet equipment...Wrong!!! The Israelis have either European/USA equipment with Israeli modifications or purely Israeli weapons. Its the Arabs who generally get Soviet equipment (the more USA-friendly nations do upgrade some of the better soviet weapons with USA technology).
And besides...look what the Russkies are doing now. They dont care about the Middle East anymore...they have their own fuel reserves and more diversified resources...and the Arabs I seriously doubt would forget what the Soviets did to Afghanistan...so most likely nothing would happen in your proposed scenario...just a continuation of the Cold War (probably would be good as Osama would still be after them Soviets instead of the USA now).
