Religions all offer opportunities for humans to make good in this world and also to make bad.
Ignorance, bigotry and greed cause sufffering. If there was no religion in the world these things would still exist.
Humans tend to be idealistic and hence will look for ideologies or religions or philosophies to adhere to.
Even if there were no religion there would still be communism and fascism etc. which would in turn cause suffering in the world.
Power breeds corruption. This is fact. On a small scale and expecially on a large one. Religions are ideologies. They do not cause sufferring by themselves. People do. Social context, economics, politics etc. play a large part in all of this. Pointing a finger at a religion for causing the most suffering is detrimental to human development. It lead to assumptions that people who follow a certain religion are symbols of that suffering, this is commonly known as bigotry.

Beyond a doubt it has been Christianity which has been the cause of most of the wars. Whilst the Muslims are seen as the worst today they would have to go on like this for hundreds of years to catch up.
But is it just the Muslims at the moment? How about all the Christian groups giving support and succour in the countries making war on Israel and providing money to many terrorist related organisations?
When Bush and Blair speak of their holy mission and that sort of talk it gives strength to every religious group in the world when they state the West is waging a holy war against them and it gets more soldiers attacked and killed.
Christianity and other religions will continue to cause war and terrorism until religion is removed from government entirely. Let politicians believe what religion they like but keep it to themselves and represent the electorate not their religion.

Christianity. It is a statistical fact that Christian nations get into more wars than non-Christian nations. The Buddhists are fairly peaceful and meditative. Hindus have a non-violent past. The Muslims are against predatory activities that destroy the lives of others. They believe it is wrong to sell alcohol, narcotics and tobacco. Christians don't seem to care much. Muslims will not charge 10% on a loan, because it is usury. Muslims are opposed to gambling, which also creates human suffering. If a man rapes a women or child, he will be castrated in most Moslem nations, so it won't happen again.

They all have their fare share. Their are misguided people in all religions who use their religion for an agenda. But I am pretty sure the majority of the answers here are going to say Islam. Guess the Crusades are either forgotten or excused.

they are all pretty bad but the Christers are the worst by far, from before the Inquisition and the forced conversions by sword of most of the world to the present persecutions and genocides of eastern Europe and the middle east

I personally think that we cannot say any religion causes hurt....the people who hurt others do it in the name of religion by misinterpreting religious scriptures....For example Christianity tells to "Ward off evil" Bush takes it as an order to kill the bad people......Islam tells " Protect your religion " meanin to conserve Islam...whereas Jehadis take it as an order from God to kill evryone who does not follow Islam.......All religions have one common aim " Protect Humanity as a whole keeping in mind each ones principles instilled by their faith and living in a peaceful, calm world....." Peace to ol.......
