Most people considered the Viet Nam War to be an American loss. So Hi Chih Min's army must've won...Right?

The Viet Cong won and proud of it they are too, the war wouldnt have lasted as long nor would so many people have been killed had the Americans not interfered and unfortunately many Vietnamese are still paying the price for having been coerced into fighting with the Americans. America promised them asylum then turnd their backs on them.Nothing much has changed!

When North Vietnamese tanks crash into the American Embassy in Saigon and the staff have to be lifted off the roof by US helicopters while the victors mercifully hold their fire, I suppose one may say that the North Vietnamese won that particular war hands down, with no possible argument to the contrary, just as our opponents will win in Iraq and (even more resoundingly) in Afghanistan. Hands down, again, is the mot juste!

Militarily the US did score major victories and inflicted heavy caualties in the Vietnam war. Unfortunately it was a political defeat because the US government at that time did not quickly end the war.The lengthy conflict was used by a fifth column (communist sympathizers) to sway the american public's opinion against the war.

The best way to win a war is not to start one or to end it quickly.

The Vietnamese were the pawns and The U.S and the Soviet Union were the competitors. We pulled out, and Communism flourished. Despite the losses, they got what they wanted.

30 years after the war ended, it's China that's emerging as the winner.

The Soviet Union. Seriously, they got bragging rights but didn't get destroyed like Vietman was afterwards.
