I have a crt (direct view HD ready TV. I believe Sony still makes CRT HDTV models. They are the lowest cost entry into HDTV. Be aware, that although they may accept 1080i inputs from your tuner, no CRT (in the consumer price range) can really display 1080 lines. While it's not "real" HD, it still looks better than standard TV.

YES! I have two. Both are toshiba's (although rear-projection). TP71H95 and TP61H95. They were manufactured around 1998. Pretty much all of the major brands offered crt HD ready sets (direct view or rear projection).
