Someone I know has recently started getting nightmares, didn't think much about it untill she had one during the day, she was simply sat at her desk at work and suddenly felt herself being burned at the stake, then she saw herself leave her body to turn around and watch herself being burnt. This of course was very scary, she has been to see a doctor and they proscribed prozac however she has been on this before and really didn't like it and so has refused to take it, she has been given a different medication although not sure what it is. However she has started feeling very sick and at one point has felt as though she was going to pass out. Is this normal with depression or have the doctors just looked at her records saw that she has had a problem in the past and assumed its the same again.

Possibly manic depression, possibly she needs a brain scan... it could be that she has some form of epileptic activity in the religious/imaginative portions of her brain, or it could be something more sinister. She should definitely discuss this with a specialist.

It could be nothing, she may just over-indulge her imagination when unhappy as a method of distraction, but it can't help to have it checked properly.

as far as i know, though i'm not an expert and i could be wrong, depression couldn't cause her to feel or see herself be burned. it sounds more like some kind of schizophrenic event.
(i have been around a lot of clinically depressed people during the course of my life and never have they reported hallucinations)
i think she needs to see a clinical psychologist, or perhaps a psychiatrist...

That don't sound like Depression, that sounds like Anxiety/Panic attacks, they can be induced by stress at work/home, by relationship trouble etc....She needs also to seek some counseling, and not depend on drugs, to make things better, Not that it does not help, but Society counts to much on drugs to make things better... She needs to find out what is causing her panic attacks/anxiety and get that solved....best of Luck
