It was in today's Garfield funnies. I grew up and went to college here in the U.S., just never heard of this quote. This is probably one of the reasons one should not stop reading :)

Well, all due respects, limey doesn't have it precisely.. It means that even in the darkest moments, in the blackest of situations and despair - there is still some good there to be found.. inside where the lining is, you just have to look for it..

See the other side of the coin.There is a ray of hope even in difficult circumstances. A tragedy is not as big as it looms. Aftremath of tragedy may bring gains and good times. One should remain optimistic even in difficult times.

I think it meant that the sky filled with dark clours and u can't see anything and then U saw a silver lining.
In reality it means that when U thought U are out of your wits end and then something pops out and u were saed!

Its similar to "the light at the end of the tunnel". When things seem desperate and hopeless, hang on. Be hopeful and have optimistism. Without darkness, we would not appreciate the light.
