>> Choose Run (if it does not appear, u need to configure, right click on the taskbar, choose properties, customize, advanced. Scroll down till the last few choices, click run command)
>> Type in "msconfig" in the run command box
>> There will be a pop-out. Go to startup (the last tab), u can check or uncheck the program u with to run at the startup (be aware, make sure which one u are unclick, if u unclick the important program, your PC may not run properly). E,g, u dun want MSN run as the startup, uncheck it
U need to restart your PC after this change. but u can choose to exit without restart. I normally finish my stuff first then restart, anyway it will not prompt u

1. Select "Run..." from "Start" menu
2. Type "msconfig" in the run dialog box
3. System Configuration Utility window get displayed
4. Select "StartUp" Tab
5. You'll have a list of all programs that run at start up time.
You can either disable individual programs by deselecting them. Or "disable all" at a time by clicking on "Disable All" button at the bottom.
6. Finally, click on "Ok" or "Apply" and "Ok"
7. Re-start the system.
8. You'll get a message the system has been started up with selective start up option. Disable that dialog from being displayed at the start up time.

To disable programs running at startup, go to Run and type 'msconfig' press enter.A window with tabs General,System.ini,...,Startup (at last) will open .Click on 'startup' and click the 'check box' of the program which you want to disable and click 'Apply' and/or 'OK'.Finished
For this you don't need to install any utility

How to disable programs running at start of Windows?
Set of instruction step by step
1. Click start.
2. Click Run
3. On the run prompt, Type "MSCONFIG"
4. MSCONFIG window will appear
5. Click on the Startup tab.
NOTE: You will see a list of programs there, lots of them in my case.
6. Select the program you wish to disable
7. Click apply
8. Click OK to close that window
9. It will prompt you to restart Windows
10. Click on restart if you wish.
NOTE: You must restart Windows in order for your new settings to take effect.

no need any special utility, windows has provide it.
Control Panel -> administrative tools -> services
find the name that you want to disable.
double click it
stop it -> for stop it.
choose disable/manual. -> for disable it.

msconfig, not msnconfig as the person before me answered.
This will not work in Windows 2000, only 95, 98, ME and XP.
In 2000, you gotta do it manually in the registry and in the startup directories.

click Start > Run
type msconfig
that will open System Configuration Utility
in Start up tab... u can remove programs which u don't want at start up...

Click start.run. type msconfig then click ok.After it opens click start up items & uncheck the programs you don't want on start up.Oh,when you install programs don't add them to the start up menu when it ask,if you don't want them there.;)
