>> Click Start
>> Choose Run (if it does not appear, u need to configure, right click on the taskbar, choose properties, customize, advanced. Scroll down till the last few choices, click run command)
>> Type in "msconfig" in the run command box
>> There will be a pop-out. Go to startup (the last tab), u can check or uncheck the program u with to run at the startup (be aware, make sure which one u are unclick, if u unclick the important program, your PC may not run properly). E,g, u dun want MSN run as the startup, uncheck it

1. Select "Run..." from "Start" menu
2. Type "msconfig" in the run dialog box
3. System Configuration Utility window get displayed
4. Select "StartUp" Tab
5. You'll have a list of all programs that run at start up time.
You can either disable individual programs by deselecting them. Or "disable all" at a time by clicking on "Disable All" button at the bottom.
6. Finally, click on "Ok" or "Apply" and "Ok"
7. Re-start the system.
8. You'll get a message the system has been started up with selective start up option. Disable that dialog from being displayed at the start up time.

For this you don't need to install any utility

msconfig, not msnconfig as the person before me answered.

This will not work in Windows 2000, only 95, 98, ME and XP.

In 2000, you gotta do it manually in the registry and in the startup directories.
