Do you think that boat crews should be allowed to be armed to protect them and their cargo from pirates. Especially on cruise ships that would be a valueable target for pirates.

At least I got 1 serious answer so far, People pirates still exist. I think having armories aboard cruise ships is a good idea considering all of the recent terror attacks the world has seen.

I think cruise ships have problems with weapons because they have to adhere to international laws of the countries waters they sail into and could face thier penalties

Maybe not walking around with em but definitely they should have an arms hold where they store a stash of weapons locked up for emergencies. The Coast Guard (if they are close to the U.S.), or military ships couldn't get there fast enough to help so if they aren't armed there wouldn't be any stopping a takeover.

The problem is the average ship only has a few guys on watch at any given time. By the time the on-watch crew armed themselves and got the off-watch crew out of the sack it would might be too late. The pirates would just end up better armed. Obviously it's different on a cruise ship, but most of those vessels are in waters where there are no pirates. Some ships can dog all their hatches from the inside, which leaves pirates literally on the outside looking in.

I'm sure a lot of cruise ships already have arms on them...after the highly publicized cruise ship attacked off of the African coast line.
I don't see what would be holding any cruise ship back from carrying decent sized machine guns on board safely stowed away.
Recently though cruise ships are having more problems with missing persons and passengers falling overboard...
