I am 22 years old and have had clinical depression on and off (about 6-12 month periods) and been on anti depressants on and off since I was 14. Does clinical depression ever go away? Im not talking about mood swings, but long periods with suicidal thoughts, and 1 attempt.

Wake....please don't take any of this info posted as serious, but with that said, AND MEANT! Maybe all you need is to re-think your thinking patterns. Honestly, check out the book by Vernon Howard, The Mystic Path to Cosmic Power- really weird title, but it is FULL of AWESOME information. I don't know that it can help the clinical depression, but it will help in many ways! Really, check it out.....best of luck!

Does Clinical Depression Go Away

Speak with your doctor, but I believe many forms of mental illness improve dramatically as people get older. Perhaps hormones play a role. Please don't become discouraged. I hope you have a doctor you have faith in, and I hope the drugs are managing your symptoms without too many side effects. I would also suggest developing and maintaining a routine of adequate sleep (7-8 hours a night), healthy food (fruits, vegetables, fiber--nothing kooky), and exercise (even just brisk walking) so that the rest of your body is in good shape to deal with whatever your brain is throwing at you. There are things you may be able to do to alleviate your depression now and perhaps help you overcome it. Definitely ask your doctor or social worker for a support group, and the best of luck to you. I want you to outlast your depression, and I believe you will.

My understanding of this problem leads me to say, it might.

It depends on what the real reason for your depression is and what your therapy is.

With a combination of drugs, cognitive therapy, and life changes, the answer would be most likely yes.

The problem is that the brain is has to deal with and is complex, and each persons depression is unique.

I hope you the best, and please get the help you need. Your life is special, and i hope you find happiness.

untreated clinical depression goes away after 4 to 6 months. if depression is sever and it interferes in your routines, your relations and your work, if it is suicidal and causes significant distress it should be treated.
