yes or you can set the timer to record at a certin time and then after setting the time turn it off and watch the show later. Just make sure you put the tape in first.

On my VCR, I have to set up which channel I want to record with first. It's pretty old though.

1.) Change to channel 3.
2.) Turn on VCR and insert tape.
3.) Using the VCR remote, press the channel you want.
4.) Press record.

Depends on the specific VCR, but most have an instant record function, so if your VCR is set to the right channel (this can be different from the one playing, check the screen of your VCR) then you can press record to start recording. make sure of course you have something to record on.

Sometimes you push play & record.
Some units are "one button record"
