Fresh fruit and vegetables in season..the veges are yummy lightly steamed.
A variety of meat and fish..alternate them throughout the week. Grab them as they come on 'special'. Grill steaks & chops, slow cook overnight or through the day cheaper, tougher cuts of meat in water or stock..wine if you can afford it.
Rice and pasta..alternate them between your vege nights. Choose basmati, jasmine or wild rice over the other plain white rices if you can. The plain white rices are not so healthy & don't taste or smell nearly so good!
Use herbs and spices to jazz up the flavour. Tarragon for eggs and chicken. Cilantro, basil, garlic, ginger & chillies for everything!
Don't be afraid to use fruit in your meat marinades. Their acid and sweetness do wonderful things, especially with lamb and pork.
If your budget doesn't allow for fresh herbs, use herbal teabags to flavour your food. It's safe to rip them open & tip the contents into whatever you're cooking.
