I put my bananas in the fridge. The outsides may turn dark but the insides stay good. It's so nice to eat a nice cold banana too.

u dont have to keep them in frig, take a thin rope..5mm or little more, at one end make a knot/doubleknot, tie the other end on ceiling, take the rope through the middle of the bunch from plain end, now the knot is touhing the banans, hang the bunch, no part of the bunch should be touching the wall etc.. now take a very thin cloth..make a small bag with a string, put the hanging bunch in it tighten the string at the top ... bananas will last for good few days and np flying insect will get.. they might get on the outer side ..

1. Leave bananas in a closed paper bag at room temperature if they are not yet ripe.

2. Place an apple in the bag to speed ripening. The apple gives off ethylene gas, which causes fruit to ripen.

3. Once bananas become ripe - that is, yellow in color, speckled with a bit of brown - put them in your refrigerator, preferably at a temperature of about 50F (10C).

4. Store for no more than 2 weeks.

5. Once cut, sprinkle with citrus juice to stop them from browning too quickly.

Tips:
Avoid refrigerating unripe bananas, as they will never ripen.

Mash and freeze ripe bananas, in one-cup portions, or freeze whole, peeled bananas in plastic bags, for use in later baking.

I normally keep mine in a fruit bowl in the corner of the kitchen. However, they cost so much in Australia due to Cyclone Larry ($15 a kilo) that I don't buy them.
