Our justice system is a fair one. We punish the criminal, but we also try to see the reasons behind the act of criminality, before sentencing a punishment.

We learned that every act of wrong-doing can be blamed on the individual, but also on the society as a whole.
The bible is all about sin and repent. Society has learned that a 'sin' can have much deeper grounds and can have reasons beyond the individual.

God's law: sin and repent, else you'll end up in Hell.
Society: sin, and we'll try to help you, educate you in becoming a better person and we'll give you a second chance.

I believe that society has much more evolved the last centuries than God has.

Isn't it about time that God came with a new set of laws, which make a little more sense to our intelligent society ?

You're looking at the world from a very judeo-christian POV :-) . Many cultures see the god(s) as very human like, who are capable of the same failings as humans. Others, like me, see God as more complex as murder = bad, gay = bad, all believe in Jesus = good. I see several layers of Grey in this world and some of the bad crap out these is needed to help us evolve as a species. The more complex a creature's social system, the more violent it becomes. Take ants for example. They have one of the most complex social systems of any creature. They also have one of the most violent out there. They're always killing each other and going to war with other nests. Their social system is about raping what you can from the earth and using the results to keep them alive. Sound familiar?

Social negligence and stupidity is not only the end result of being big brained, intelligent animals, it's the end result of being highly social ones. The up side to this is that we can change the way we do things. The down side is it may take time. It may not happen 20 years from now or 300. Hell, it may not take another 4000. But we will learn things from the crap out there. Hopefully they'll be good things. Perhaps we'll go the way of the Bonobo who uses gifts and sex to solve their arguments!

Humans more reasonable than God? Have you read the newspaper? Humans are not reasonable. We have more people that have died in this century from wars than all the previous centuries combined. Look at racism , prejudice, violation of human rights in many countries, abortion, child slave markets, etc.

You haven't done your homework. It is obvious that you know very little of the Bible. It is about sin. God says all have sinned . That is the problem. How can society help you ? What has society done about the millions of abortions. It sure ain't helping the babies. Education doesn't help a person become a better person are you kidding ? Some of the most educated people are criminals. Look at our government. Look at corporate crime. Education just makes a criminal a smarter criminal .

Society evolved ? Yes it has. It has gotten worse. A new set of laws from God. You are really sounding dumb. So you want to replace " Thou shalt not murder with what ????

Thou shalt not Steal with what ???

Nothing is wrong with the laws of God. Something is wrong with the people. Second chance ? Do you lock your doors at night ? Do you leave your car keys in the car . Better yet . Put your wallet full of cash and just leave it on a bus or on a park bench and go home and wait for an evolved human being to bring you the cash .
And if you have a teenage daughter- give a rapist or murderer a second chance. Go to the prison and bring him into your home to stay and allow him to date your daughter.

Think about it.

We hold criminals to our own standards: that we all make mistakes, and we just have to punish the really big ones. If God's standard is "I don't make mistakes", we're all pretty screwed without some help.

Also, you could say that God lets us screw up over and over, for an average of about 80 years hoping we'll learn that we really can't do this thing called life very well on our own.

Also, according to God's law, repent and your sin will be forgiven. Man's says repent and you'll get out on good behavior early. And then you won't be able to find a better job than sacking groceries for minimum wage.

And, you are right that God hasn't evolved. He hasn't changed at all. You may consider it a bad thing, but I kinda like the fact he doesn't change to fit the current style. I wouldn't want to have a God that had been caught up in the big hair of the 80s.

---> Society: sin, and we'll try to help you, educate you in becoming a better person and we'll give you a second chance. <--- Since when was this happening? If this was true, N. Korea would have surrendered their nukes by now and UN would let them live in peace again.

I think you took the word "repent" out of context. When a person repents, it means acknowledging you have done something wrong, apologizing for it, being punished for it, then moving on to change your ways... sounds pretty much the same as what your perfect society is doing... only, a repentant person is set on compensating for he has done as much as he can and eventually live a better life... as opposed to someone who needs a lawyer, juries, and jailmates, right? Of course the life as an ex-convict is a different story...

And for that matter, if God *provided he exists* should make new laws, according to his whim once again, would you follow it or condemn it as you are doing now? You keep on insisting for things to change but the way I see it, some change needs to take place on someone too...

The laws and principles that society is built on is based on the laws of the Old Testament. And we are in no way better or smarter than God.

God's punishment is based on the fact that He doesn't sin and we should try not to even though its impossible and God knows that. Society's punishment is based on the fact that society sins which means its not perfect, unlike God.

Also, society has MANY flaws. Many not guilty people have gone to prison because the way the "system" works. And guilty people have gone free. God has never misjudged anyone and sent them to hell by mistake, that's why Hes God.

Although you probably got a lot of nasty answers, I liked your question, its not one I haven't heard before but still I'm glad you asked.

God is black and white because He can be, society can't be and doesn't have the right to be and in no way are people more reasonable than God.

God is the author of mercy and forgiveness...His mercies are new every morning. We'd of been obliterated a while ago had He not strived with us in earnest to bring us back around to Him. You seem to forget or, overlook, all law is based upon His two most important...Love God with all your being and love your neighbor as yourself. Before Christ came into the world..there was very little mercy, benevolence, healing and tolorance. He taught us those things as well as that all human life was that valuable that He was willing to give His own for us. So what...should this cycle of evil and wickedness and sin go on forever..? I think He has done more than enough...society hasn't "evolved" to any remarkable extint but to the degree that we've moved even a fraction more often than not socieity creates criminals and lawbreakers and then incarcerates them. Yes, everyone is responsible for their own actions...but according to the severity of those actions...people don't have much compassion on say..a rapist of children..maybe a person of self-indulgent sin such as alcoholism...but that is where we have been taught by moral law to have some compassion. Go back to the world 2 thousand years ago before Christ...yeah...pretty much its the same in every country accross the Globe that has not experienced the healing of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Non-christian 3rd world countries are very intolerant of crime and criminals except and in where there is a corrupt police state and judicial system...then, that is where the innocent end up incarcerated. Your theory is flawed. Love in Christ, ~J~ <><

If you read the bible you'd know there is no hell, and there is a second chance. God sent Jesus to die for our sins so we may have a second chance at everlasting life.
Ecclesiastes 9: 5,10
Psalms 146: 4
Romans 5: 16, 17
Man's justice system is nothing in comparison to God's. Man doesnt have the right to rule themselves, and I think we can all see why.

Actually, it would probably be better to do away with the illusion that god's laws have anything at all to do with society. It was SECULAR values which overcame the insane religious ignorance and oppression of the Dark Ages. Here's a real look. Here's a list of religions, listed as a percentage of the US federal prison population (1997):

The Federal Bureau of Prisons does have statistics on religious affiliations of inmates. The following are total number of inmates per religion category:

Response %
---------------------------- --------
Catholic    39.164%
Protestant    35.008%
Muslim    7.273%
American Indian    3.222%
Nation    2.320%
Rasta    1.987%
Jewish     1.773%
Church of Christ     1.744%
Pentecostal     1.463%
Moorish     1.426%
Buddhis     1.180%
Jehovah Witness     0.890%
Adventist     0.831%
Orthodox     0.502%
Mormon     0.399%
Scientology     0.254%
ATHEIST     0.209%
Hindu     0.159%
Santeria     0.157%
Sikh     0.019%
Bahai     0.012%
Krishna     0.009%

Hmmm... note that the Judeo-Christian Total works out to 83.761%. Not an unexpected result.

Note that ATHEISTS, being a moderate proportion of the USA population (about 8 - 16%) are disproportionately LESS in the prison populations (0.21%).

Pretty odd result, for a group that has no god-given guiding moral principals, huh?

Nice question, but your premise has several fallacies. GOD's laws are perfect and he give everyone a chance for redemption. This is what Christ died for. HE gives us a second chance to be born again, the old man passes away and we put on the new man and we become a new creation in Christ.
