if you pick them up too early the mother will move them or she will quit taking care of them give her time to get more use to them and you being around the kittens wait about three weeks to a month

You can pick them up already. The more you pick and cuddle them ,they more they will be sociable and friendly with people. If you are scared the mummy will shift them around, put the whole family in a cage. This is actually recommended as then the kittens will have more access to mummy for feeding as she will not be able to roam from her kittens.

It depends on how the mother is towards you. Try and pick 1 up and see how she reacts. I have 2 cats which both had had 3 litters each and they were fine with me touching the kittens when they were born!

We raised 8 litters of kittens, and we started handling them as soon as the mom got through cleaning them up and they had been fed the first time.

Just sit down on the floor right next to the box, and take out one baby at a time. Stay right there and let the mom see that you aren't hurting the baby. Talk soothingly to the mom and tell her you just want to see her babies. She may come out of the box to see what you are doing, but just keep talking to her.

The sooner you start handling the babies, the better. they will get used to you and the mom will know you aren't going to hurt them. Just hold them for a few minutes at a time--only a few times a day. As they get older, you can hold them longer. But stay right by the box for the first few weeks while you hold them.

This worked for us!
