Ok this question is being asked for my friend who is here with me tonight. She has a guy friend she met like 2 months ago and when they have talked on the phone, at first he seems to be fine, but after awhile he starts this snorting noise that sounds like he is sucking up chocolate milk in his nose. Theres like a little bit of a laugh each time he does it.LOL I heard just a bit of it over the speaker phone tonight, but not enough to make out if its just him goofing off or a medical problem he might have. She asked him several times what he is doing and he always answers with watching TV talking to you. She asked what the noise was and he was like nothing. She wont let me come out and ask him. I would embarrass her, so anyone out there know if this could be a medical disorder? Serious answers only...I have better things to do than read all these unnecessary answers.

Wow, I thought I would get better answers than this. Apparently not many were even paying much attention to the question. Most just want to sound brighter than the next like gabe. LOL You all read in way too much into peoples questions. This NOT a boyfriend. Just a friend she met and talked on the phone. Just friends not lovers. She was only curious to what it could be. I dont think its drugs, it sounds more like a disorder of some sort and I dont want to embarrass the guy if this is the case. Not his fault. But Vet tech seemed to be the most helpful without so quickly accusing one of drugs. So Thanks Vet Tech, My friend picks your answer.

I used to date a guy who had Tourette's syndrome. If you've never heard of it, you might want to check out the website below. People with this disorder display uncontrollable, spontaneous behaviors called "tics." The tics can manifest themselves in many ways, although the one that lots of people make fun of are the people who spontaneously curse. The guy I dated used to crack his jaw and blink really hard. Maybe your friend's guy has a form of Tourette's? Sometimes the tics get worse when someone is uncomfortable, such as when a guy is talking with a girl he likes and he can't think of anything cool to say...Sometimes, people with Tourette's disorder are only a little aware of their tics, and more often they try to pretend that it doesn't happen because it can be socially embarrassing.

He could be clearing his throat or nose (some men have disgusting habits what can I say).
He could be doing something a bit perverted while on the phone with her, some men from online are just into that from listening to a girl's voice. Especially if it's a younger girl or one with a pretty voice. The snort could be him grunting, the 'laugh' could be his exhaling a labored breath as he does his business. Yes, I am being serious.
He could have a medical disorder in the sense of having a bad habit of making the sounds.
His septum or nostrils (sinuses) could have a medical disorder very easily that gives him cause to suck, snort, clear flem, clear mucas, (clear meaning how men suck, hork, and hack their body fluids).. grossing myself out answering this >.< and that's hard to do. If the sound doesn't bother her, then not much you can do about it short of just plain old asking the guy what the heck he's doing. Obviously he already has avoided answering though, so either he's embaressed or hiding something.
He might also just have a really stupid laugh (a lot of guys do that half snort/laugh while watching TV).. he also could be watching porn while on the phone with her.
This is why it's better to meet men in real life, and not random strangers from online. You never know when you will get a weird one. ( 8 out of 10 times )

Its a pretty silly question, but here goes.
Some people have problems in their sinuses, where they get blocked or painful, this is one unlikely explanation.
He could also just have a normal cold.
More likely is that he is messing with you. Why dont you just ask him, or get your friend to? Just be straight up, and when he gives the standard tv and talking response, just say "no I was wondering what that snorting noise is? Do you have a problem with your nose or something?"
Most medical disorders dont come with laughter built in. If I made noises like I was snorting a thickshake I'd probably cry, not laugh!!!
Good luck. You girls should just get some balls. Don't be afraid to ask questions. It could just be that he is so stupid he thinks the thickshake straw is meant for the nose!

Does he make this noise when you are talking to him in person as well. He may be nervous talking on the phone a lot of people are not phone people and he may be fidgeting and sniffing while he talks to her. He may not be aware of this himself. I am hoping he will grow out of it he is 13 years old but if he doesn't I am sure the older he gets the more conscious he will be about it and do something about the problem. Cause it is a problem.
My boyfriend's son has a problem with gurgling. When ever his mind engages into thought he makes this clicking gurgling sound. It can get real annoying to those people around him Yet it seems not to bother him at all.

I guess it could be a medical something or other, but I've had some severe sinus problems fixed and I never made that particular variety of noise...
Are you sure he maybe doesn't have a drug problem? That seems unlikely though, since it happens every time she talks to him.
Maybe he just has a funny laugh.

There could be a wide range of problems, however I would be concerned if, in public he didn't perform the same noise as it could be something more serious than a medical disorder.
At the end of the day it is your friends decision not your's as to who she dates and who does the asking!

Sounds to me like he's watching tv, sees something funny, and when he laughs, he snorts. haha he's a snorter. that's about the best i can figure. i guess if you're looking for a medical disorder, sure he has a swolen pallet. probably snores real bad when he sleeps too.
