Let's get some good answers here. Note I am not saying the monies toll roads collect aren't necessary - I just feel toll roads themselves are not the best way to collect those monies. There must be more efficient methods.

Toll roads seems to be a necessary for transportation. Not only does this collect revenue for the locals or the authority, but I bet traffic counts and daily monitoring help regulate the roadways. Note, there are peak hours daily to monitor the most congestive times and how many vehicles pass along.

All in all, look at tolls as a service to help other transportation projects. Yes, why I do we have them? If we didn't, imagine other infrastructures and transportation programs would not had been built.

well i agree with you to a point i think a toll road is a good idea because it will allow states to construct a road that they wouldnt have the money for to begin with so it is a good thing to have a toll pay for the road but i think when the road is payed for its self it should be turned in to a free limited access highway . and i dont think toll money should be used for education or health or anything other then roads if you dont need the money on that toll road use it on another road cause what good is a great education and health system if you cant get to the schools & hospitals ? but toll roads arnt all bad they just need to figure out how long to keep a toll on a road and with the cost of asphalt and other material today we need toll roads to help pay for the cost of the road cause if we pay it back then that money could go to making or widening another free road . so all in all toll roads arnt a poor idea and we dont need them removed or outlawed .

Toll roads are becoming more popular as anti-tax Republicans continue to drive the agenda at the state and local level, and Democrats, afraid of being labeled tax-raisers, cower to their demands. Basically, there are two ways to collect revenue: tolls and taxes. Guess which one is easier to get people to accept these days? Change the political climate, and you can get toll roads to go away again. But until then, expect the toll road trend to continue.

They aren't. Toll roads are a good thing.

Government roads are important, because they provide a level of access to places where markets might not support a private road. But private roads can be profitable for entrepreneurs to operate, and sometimes private companies can do it more efficiently - meaning that the costs of building and maintaining the road plus the entrepreneur's profit is less than the cost of taxing people for a similar level of service would be under a governmental regime. And thus, in a few places anyway, you get cheaper or better roads, or maybe both.

Best wishes and God bless.

Most toll roads are under construction around here so you can't drive on them, some one has to pay to keep the roads work up to date.

1 ... yes 2 ... once or twice a month 3 ... strongly agree 4 ... I ALWAYS choose the M6 Toll ... not sure whether that's a 1 or a 10 on your scale 5 ... very good 6 ... what it helps me with is firstly to avoid the congestion on the M6 around Birmingham ... and also it's a little oasis of calm between the M6 and the M1 which enables me to cope with the dreadful traffic when I travel from London to North Wales

they are not. U can see that infrastructural development do take lots of Funds,By putting toll the burden of Govt. is reduced to some extent, and thus the saved fund can be utilized for social sector and education.

I think toll booths are a huge safety hazard. All that merging, stopping and going, searching for change...Yikes!
