I have a mother in-law that never has much time for me and my children but for her daughter and her children she will drop everything for. Last year she forgot my birthday and it took 6 months before she remembered and this year she even forgot my 4 year olds birthday and didnt remember for a few weeks after when someone reminded her. She still havent seen her and it has been over a month. She is always doing things like this to me. Does anyone have the same problem?

sorry your mother in -law is like that towards U & your kids it is her loss that she's missing out on yours & her grandkids lifes, I know this must hurt U, my life is almost the same but it is my own mother that doesn't pay any attention 2 her granddaughter but she gives her attention 2 her grandson and that really hurts me, i feel sad for my daughter, she is 2 young to notice this, and that's good i can't be mad at my mother because maybey she doesn't realize she does that, if this keeps happening i will have 2 confont her about it, If this is really bothering U have a talk w/ her, i understand how U feel, I guess we will just have 2 pray for things 2 change. Just remember Jesus Loves You All!! And if anyone can fix this He can!!

Please do not compare your situation to your sister in law, the bond between those two women was there before you entered the picture.
Ask your husband to remind his mother in advance regarding important dates such as your daughters bday.
As for your bday, don't depend on someone like your mother in law to remember and celebrate it with you. You don't need this from her.
I believe you can slowly build a strong bond of your own with her.
But by playing the victim you are wasting time. Besides you really want this in your life?
I have three sisters in law, my mother made them each feel very special, my brothers would remind mom about important occasions, they were always introduced and regarded as sisters not sisters in law. I never felt jealous, moms are special that way.
Don't give up, but, don't try so hard and don't make demands.

You could make or buy a birthday book and put everyone's birthday in it including the other family members whose birthdays she already remembers.

forget chirtmas, forget her birthday, forget mothers day, see how she likes it, play her game, forget to go to a party of her daughter, forget her daughters kids,do the same as she, tell her happy mothers day three dyas later, play her game, she cant forget every year. i mean she has family and they know when the birthdays are. you dont have to remind anyone. what doesn your hubby think?

I, in fact, have the opposite problem. Mine won't leave me alone!!! I think if she ignored me I'd be super happy.

ur m-i-l is far better than others i heard. so many m-i-ls dont even give food to daughter in laws, hate her kids like nothing, dont allow parents to see, jealous of being with her son ie. husband, etc. etc.

One and only one advice...................if she is not like ur "wished" mother-in-law...........why don't you try to mold yourself like "HER DAUGHTER".

Think about it...honestly. You will definately find the way out and be sure atleast this idea will make you BETTER mother-in-law in future.
