Don't go overboard with salt. Don't have too much protein (reduce the number of days a week you eat red meat, have one vegetarian day per week). Lower your "bad" cholesterol intake, and increase your "good" cholesterol intake (which will also help lower your "bad" levels). Avoid trans fats. Stay fit. Try to reduce your stress levels. Don't smoke. Visit a doctor regularly.

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is caused when the blood in the body exerts too much pressure on the veins and arteries. The most prevalent problem is stroke, that is when a blood vessel in the brain bursts and the blood kills brain cells. The best thing that you can do is prevent the accumulation of cholesterol in the body. Cholesterol is a fat that sticks to the walls of arteries and makes them more narrow. As the arteries narrow, the pressure of blood flowing through them increases. (Cholesterol is also the primary cause of heart attacks as well). Cholesterol is only found in animal-based products, such as eggs, milk, and meat. By reducing or eliminating the consumption of these products, the risk of high blood pressure are reduced to almost zero. This is your best bet.

I'm sure you'll soon have all the usual suggestions posted here, but, the main thing you need is good genes....yep, it's mostly genetic.

I do every single Bad Thing you are not supposed to do (including eating salt!), and I am over 50, and my BP is 110 over 90. *shrug* Go figure.
