Matthew 24:1-14
"Jesus went out from the temple, and was going on his way. His disciples came to him to show him the buildings of the temple.
2 But he answered them, "You see all of these things, don't you? Most certainly I tell you, there will not be left here one stone on another, that will not be thrown down."
3 As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things be? What is the sign of your coming, and of the end of the age?"
4 Jesus answered them, "Be careful that no one leads you astray.
5 For many will come in my name, saying,'I am the Christ,' and will lead many astray.
6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you aren't troubled, for all this must happen, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be famines, plagues, and earthquakes in various divers places.
8 But all these things are the beginning of birth pains.
9 Then they will deliver you up to oppression, and will kill you. You will be hated by all of the nations for my name's sake.
10 Then many will stumble, and will deliver up one another, and will hate one another.
11 Many false prophets will arise, and will lead many astray.
12 Because iniquity will be multiplied, the love of many will grow cold.
13 But he who endures to the end, the same will be saved.
14 This Good News of the Kingdom will be preached in the whole world for a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come."
In reading the passages above consider the increasingly violent weather we have been experiencing, as well as the massive death and destruction left behind by the killer tsunami in December 2004 and by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Wars throughout the world, and in the Middle East in particular are also steadily on the increase.
This Bible passage gives you some of the signs you should be aware of, so that you can prepare for what is to come. Jesus often compared the days of preparation, to the the birth pangs of a woman in labor who is just about to give birth.

The greater danger, especially since 9-11 and the War on Terror, is that the Islamic world will band together to fight against Israel and its support base, the United States. It is well known that Iran is the sponsor of both Hamas and Hezbollah. Syria is also behind these terrorist groups. Iran is close to creating nuclear weapons, and Russia, their long-time ally is reluctant to impose sanctions on them. This allignment is predicted in the Old Testament book of Ezekiel, chapters 38 and 39. While some Biblical scholars equate this future war with the Battle of Armageddon (at the end of the Tribulation Period), it is more likely the same as the world war of Revelation's Second Seal (Revelation 6:3-4 - at the beginning of the Tribulation).
It does seem that a short period of peace in Israel would occur before the war of Ezekiel 38 and 39. This would be the false peace of 1 Thessalonians 5:3. While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

What we know is that near the end, pretty much the whole world will be against Israel. So, this means that America will either be a fallen empire, or we will turn against them. The Bible also mentions the involvement of China (East) and Russia (from the North).(of Israel). So, every time Israel goes to war, we watch to see who else gets involved, etc. and if one man will come in the name of peace to set himself up in the temple, which also must be rebuilt and has not yet. Where the temple should be is now a Muslim temple so it must be destroyed too.

In ancient times the Lebanese were known as the Phoenicians (in the Bible---the Sidonians). There are not any prophecies concerning the Sidonians in modern times. I found something interesting though.
Originally the sons of Canaan settled in "Israel". Canaan, remember, was the first born of Ham. Canaan's descendants---and this includes the other sons of Ham---were to be "servant of servants" (Gen.9:25). Their children are to serve both Shem and Japheth (verses 26,27). There is nothing wrong with serving--- we all have to learn to serve. Shem and Japheth must become God's servants, too. That is why Canaan is called a "servant of servants."
The Canaanites were great traffickers of old. The word Canaanite in Zech.14:21 is, in fact, translated as "trafficker" in the Jewish translation. The Sidonians, descendants of Canaan, were famous seamen in the days of Solomon. The Greeks called them "Phoenicians". But the Phoenicians called themselves "Kna" or "Knana", meaning Canaanite.
When Israel entered the land of Canaan under Joshua, whole tribes of the Canaanites were destroyed or driven out of central Canaan (Judges 3:1-4) because some of the Canaanites were extremely degenerate in their morals. Now turn to Gen. 10:18, "Afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad". Where did they journey?
The Canaanites settled the island of Malta and parts of Sicily, Southern Italy, Sardinia, North Africa and even Southern Spain and Portugal, where the sons of Javan were already living. Most people are familiar with the Phoenicians from grade and high school days. In North Africa the Canaanites were called Carthaginians (people from the city-state Carthage, in Roman Latin it was known as Carthago) which comes from the Phoenician word Kart Hadasht meaning 'New City".
From these lands they have spread into North and South America since the days of Columbus. The Portuguese have settled much of Brazil. The Sicilians settled heavily in big cities in America.
Canaanites have also intermarried into Esau---Turkey today (Gen.26:34), and Judah (Gen.38:2), and Israel (Judges 3:5-7). Only a few Canaanites remain in North Canaan and Lebanon. The Canaanites are seldom included in the prophecies which pertain to this twenty-first century. They exert no great position or influence in the world.
