I tapered off of it over 2 weeks! I was on a fairly high dose and this way I didn't go through any withdrawals! Good luck!

Here is how it was explained to me by my doctor. Each day it is cut in half. So the first day it goes to 50% the next day it is 25% the next is 12.5% and so on. But in order to get off it you dont want to just quit taking it. My doctor had me taking 2 pills a day then went to 1 pill one day 2 the next then 1 for about 3 days then 1 every other day for a week and then I went off. This worked for me without head aches because some of my other meds when I quit gave me headaches.

i was on effexor for several years and decided that i should quit cold turkey and i did......it took maybe 3 months to get over the shocking feeling effect.....but i recommend that you DO taper off as it is not a good idea to quit cold turkey like i did.....i felt like i was going nuts at first.....your question depends on your dosage...how much are you taking??? I was up to 100 mg /daily and i know that they dont give you more than 200mg/daily

Do it sloooowly. I would go down over a month slowly. I have been on it and it wasn't hard to get off, because I switched to Lexapro. Some people have a terrible with drawl.

about 3-4 weeks to be totally out of your system
I use that and like it. I'm not down all the time stopped drinking and am still creative and functional. Anyway good luck to you.

I'd talk to your doctor. Decreasing anti-depressants is an iffy thing.
