the pacific waters may be cold, but there probably wont be as many tourists... and it's still hawaii so it shouldn't be bad at all!

Hawaii in December is high travel time. It is the in season period. The whales are there and that brings people in. The weather is pretty much the same all year, so the water should be no colder than what it is now in the summer. On the Big Island, you could have a chance to see snow. That would be an awesome story to tell... went to Hawaii and we saw snow... With the Big Island being the tallest mountain in the world... YES it is, measured from base to tip, not all is out of the water, but it is the tallest... you will have tropical temps at beach level and much cooler on the top of the mountain. Take the cruise. Norwegian Cruise line has two brand new ships that are sailing there. They are beautiful ships... now you just have to decide if you want to sail from California or fly to Hawaii and sail from there.

Yes, Hawaii really has a year-round season. Your best pricing in December (usually very good pricing) will be during the first few weeks - before the holiday travelers get started.
Do yourself a favor and contact a travel agent specializing in Hawaii and/or cruises. You'll be glad you did. It won't cost you any extra in most cases. Be aware that anyone who offers discounted cruise pricing is probably unethical (unless they are what we call a "key agency", and there are very few of those). Cruise pricing is almost always the same no matter who is pricing the cruise. A travel agent will be able to match you will a cruise suited to you, and run interference with the cruise line and other suppliers if need be - the service provided to the client is the reason to use a good travel agent.

It is awesome!! I am from Hawaii and I have done this cruise many times!! I have sailed the QE2 and many other cruises and this is one of my favorites. You get to see all of the Hawaiian Islands, in Christmas time. There is only 7 degrees difference in temp between winter and summer in Hawaii!! so it's no big deal weather wise. You will love it !! Mele Kalikmaka Hauoli Maka Hiki Hou!!

I didn't cruise, but I did a tour to Hawaii in January '05. Weather was fabulous, waters warm--a great trip. I do love cruising, but sunrise at Haleakala and walking the beach at dawn--something you can't get on a cruise ship.
