My daughter turned 6 in April. We had her party at a bowling alley. We did a superstart theme that had all the guests dress up like their favorite superstar or even as a superstar. It was really cute. After bolwling, a costume contest, pizza, cake and ice cream, and opening presents the party was over with. The cost of the party can vary depending on what you want to spend for decorations. We spent about $500 this year. What we did last year was rent a room at a local hotel and had a pool party for my daughter. The kids had a blast and it was really kinda cheap. Just make sure you have enough adults there to help you watch the kids. For her 1,2,3, & 4 birthdays we had them at a local park with all the family. We bar-b-q'ed hot dogs & burgers and served salads, chips, fruits, veggies, cake and ice cream. My husband has a really large family so these years costed us a lot more for her party. We also had a pinata and siimple games for the kids to play such as Dance & freeze (very similar to musical chairs, except if someone is moving after the music stops they are out), we played pin the tail on the donkey, a sister in law offered to paint faces, and we set up a table covered in paper to let the kids color on. We also let the kids play outside since they were all really nice days.
I would suggest you pick a theme (tea party, treasure hunt, my little pony, etc) and then pick ideas from the theme. It is a lot easier to pick decorations and games once you have a theme in mind.

My daughter is 6 and for her birthday we invited the whole PreSchool! Lol

If its not to hot where you live i would recomend having the party in your backyard and setting up a few little centers. First go to Walmart or any craft supply store and buy some fun and easy crafts you think the kids may enjoy. Then all you need to do is get a small table and set it up in the backyard and then there ya go! A nice little craft center. You can also buy some frosting and gummy worms and get out another table and the you can have your own little "Make your own Cupcake" center! Then you can take out the hose and spray the kids! lol

Its all up to you so just be creative and let the kids have fun! It doesnt have to be anything big!
Or you could bring out the radio and listen to some fun music too and bring out some sidewalk chalk then the kids can all go out to the front yard and draw on the drive way!! Lol

Well I wish Your niece a Happy Birthday and best of luck for her party!!

My sister just threw her 6 yr old daughter a bday party and they had so much fun...she did 3 different games all set up in 3 different places so the kids could rotate (so you'll need 3 adults for this) and one was a bowl that the child has to drop cotton balls into from putting there arm straight out and the bowls on the ground. (sounds easy, it's not!!!), #2 is pin the tail on the donkey and #3 I can't remember :( SHOOT, sorry... but any game like that would be fun...and the kids just rotate to the different ones. Then she did a pinata at the end. It was so much fun. One other thing you can do, is go to Michaels or any craft store and buy those sticky shapes that are like a foam substance and let them create things. My sister had foam frames and they could stick foam castles, hearts, stars on and then my sister took a pic of each child and is going to mail it in the thank you cards so the parents can stick them in the frame that the child made.

Hope this helps!!

Have a princess party.
My daughter had one for her sixth and they all had a great time.
Boys can have fun too come as the prince.
I scouted all the opportunity shops and brought heaps of dresses and negligees (for their shiny satin material) and they all dressed up. They changed over and over during the day.
I made big cone hats with white material coming through the top and then gave them stickers, textas, glitter glue pens and then they just went for decorating their own hats..
We had pass the parcel where between each layer we had a bracelet or necklace ( just the cheap ones)
We had treasure hunts, a pinata,
Oh and make up! they just went to town.
And that was it they made their own fun from there.
Most of the time kids make their own fun at parties.
Sometimes all you need is some balloons, food, cake and add a few kids in the mix and there you go.... A Party!
As we get older we just add alcohol but the basics are the same!
Have fun!!!!!and don't stress!

Keep it short. I can't stress this enough. Kids don't always have the best attention span. Anymore than a couple of hours is too much for little ones. Don't have the Birthday Girl open her gifts in front of everyone unless you're prepared to have a kid cry because they don't understand why no one is giving them presents. That said, hand out party favors (Target has great ones) at the end to soothe any hurt feelings regarding the attention given to your neice. Why don't you try a cookout and invite the kids' parents as well? (Mexican food is easy too.) Give the kids jump ropes, bubbles, etc. and let them loose. Gather them up after the meal for cake and a game then let them go home. Kids, more than anyone, appreciate simplicity.

1. Don't hire a clown!
2. Hire puppeteers and run a puppet show.
3. Buy a complete first season DVD set of their favorite cartoon show on TV and have a marathon viewing.
4. Buy a bag of balloons and have a water balloon fight.
5. Fill a pinata with candy and have the kids smash it with a baseball bat.
6. Take them the Chuck E Cheese.
7. Take them to a roller rink.
8. Take them to Mc Donald’s (make sure they have a large playground).
9. Take them to a bowling alley.
10. Line up 20 chairs (2 rows of 10) and play musical chairs.

have them try to drop clothespins into a narrow container while the lean over the back of a chair. My uncle did this game for birthdays untill his kids were like 12. Also, don't forget the classics such as musical chairs. I spy. and pin the tail on the donkey. If it is mostly girls have a beauty parlor contest with some jewelry, clothing and make up. Have judges for this and take pictures. Construction paper, scissors and glue with glitter and scrap items like pencil shavings, macarini, yarn, rubberbands and paper clips can be laid out in an arts and crafts area for the kids to make works of art too. Remember to be comicly funny and have a positive attitude. Smile and get the kids to sing and dance to your favorite childrens songs

Kids that age really can entertain themselves. But some ideas:

Make cookies with them and let them each decorate a couple
you can buy really cheap paper chef hats, and cookies and frosting with some sprinkles really cheap.

Have it at a McDonalds that has a play area. Get a bunch of $1 burgers, $1 pops, and $1 fries. They'll play forever.

Have it at a park! The kids can play for free. You bring cake and juice packets and all is good

Hope that helps

Expand upon this! A make-up party! Invite an Avon representative and lots of adult female friends and relatives, at least two for every girl. The ruckus of so many adults paying such fun attention to a child is delicious to them. ( Tell the adult invitees to bring a potluck for eight). Nothing takes a little girl's breath away faster than having full-fledged, fully-sanctioned all-out make-up put on them by hovering ladies and an occasional gorgeous teen boy. Once, I used teen girls AND boys from the nearby high school who were learning theatrical make-up. Oh, my gosh. Did everyone have fun. Don't forget to take photos for the girls to keep.
