Has Israel committed any troops to assist the US in Iraq and if not why not?

I agree with the other answers mostly, but It may also be true that Israel has opened a second front in their own war for several reasons plus the purpose of taking the heat off of the Bush Administration in Iraq.
The thing to watch now is how the Bush Administration plays its cards at the moment. You can already see how Bush is working with the UN in support of Israel, but pay attention and you may see some otherwise unexplained activity that certainly may be the America secret hand print in support of Israel.
I believe that Bush decided long ago to follow the lead of Israel in the Middle East. Have you noticed that the criticism of the United States aimed at Israel is like pat on the back.

They have not, and that's a good thing.

Were Israeli troops to have invaded Iraq, it would have been the single most controversial thing possible in the middle east. Every other Arab nation would have taken up arms against Israel and the United States and we would very likely be involved in World War III.

Israel attacking Lebanon on their own accord is one thing, but if they had made an aggressive move in direct alliance with the US, things would have come un-glued.

No, because the presence of Israeli troops in a Muslim nation would cause the natives to go apesh*t, no matter how noble or effective their mission. Muslims will insist on letting their own people languish and die before accepting humanitarian aid from Israel; how do you think they'd respond to troops?
