That depends entirely upon the cause of their blindness.

Glaucoma and macular degeneration involve blurriness and dark spots, as does extreme nearsightedness.

Being blind from birth isn't like seeing anything if the optic nerve isn't there or disrupted. It isn't darkness or white or anything. It's like trying to see through your nose- there just isn't anything there.

If you are thinking of a specific blind person's experience, I would suggest asking them.

It is black if they are completely blind. If they are just legally blind, they can see images but they are so blurry that they cannot make out what they are.

some it is blurry, but from what I am told, most can sense amount of light, Some also have vague senses of shape. Legally blind is different--you can still be able to see, just not see well corrected.

i was a carer for blind man for almost 8 months, i often got told what he saw...he could see tiny streams of light, pin prick streams, but as for color, no...when u go blind u lose all ability to see shades or color....unless ur only a certain percent blind...then u might be able to see light...but as for color and shades its not possible when ur blind, all they see is black...is a horrible affliction but when u live with some 1 who is blind u see how much courage and indepenance they have...they get so much stronger with all their other senses.... being blind is a scary life....

I recall a non-fiction children's book about a blind girl. I think her name was Antoinette and it was full of photographs of her activities.
On one page it was completely black and some writing elsewhere which said something like:-"This is what Antoinette sees..." since it's a children's book about understanding blindness.
