Describing god means limiting god. To say god is this and not that makes god a relative god and not an omni potent one.
God is undefinable, even this is a limitation of god.

God is exactly the same as the number ZERO. He is what you make him to be. Important if you want Him to be important or nothing if you want him to be nothing.
He is a loving Father who can and will solve all your problems and take care of all your needs and desires. He is a great enemy who only hurts you and gives you wants and needs that are never fulfilled. He is a loving King or a wicked King.
To a small child who get zero candy when his friends got some, the zero is not good. To the child who got zero spankings when his friends all got a spanking the zero is good.
See God is a point of view in your view to you. You must describe him for yourself.
I guess the best way to do this is get to know Him. In my opinion the Bible is a good place to start.
Have a good day and smile while you read this and do think about it a little, I hope.

The test for some entity to be god is very simple. These four verses of the Qur'an correctly describe God the All mighty:
Arabic Text:
Qul Huw-Allahu Ahad
Allah-us-Samad
Lam yalid wl lam yulad
Wa lam yakul lahu kufuwan ahad
English Translation:
He is Allah, the One and Only!
Allah, the Eternal, Absolute;
He begetteth not nor is He begotten.
And there is none like unto Him.
Simple just put anything that claims to be god in the above test if it carries all the four characteristics then worship him.

How could I begin to describe something that has no physical evidence of mass, matter, or any other form of existence other than in the form of thought and blind faith?
But, have you asked Mr. Webster? Or Mr. Oxford? Maybe they can lead you in the right direction. Otherwise, I would suggest trying to look within yourself, when attempting to find the answer to this question--it may be different for every single person.
Perhaps the word "God" was only meant to give meaning to the character of our imaginations that we look to in times of hope and desperation; but was never meant to be described, compared, or defined, outside of our personal realm.
****As an interesting side thought: Have you ever looked up the word, "Allah" in the dictionary? Give it a try--I think you'll find it quite intriquing... (If you don't have a dictionary, you can check out an online dictionary such as www.dictionary.com)
Happy Wishes in your quest for an answer!!

First of all, thank you for capitalizing the letter "G" in the word God.
Secondly, I would describe God as a wise, forgiving and loving creator.

I think of God as energy - i think of us all as energy. Let me explain:
We are spiritual beings in physical bodies here on Earth. I think of the soul as a kind of energy, a spark. I think when we all get together we are a great cloud of energy in the Universe and I think that cloud of energy is God. I think that energy is what animates everything in our Universe (so i think of it as Universal Energy often times, so as not to confuse it with a guy in the sky).
I think that each and every one of us is a beloved part or "child" of this energy. I think that this energy is our home and we reconnect with the source (or go to heaven) when we are finished in this physical existence.
I think that we each come here to learn something specific that can only be learned on this planet (and I think you could say that Adam and Eve chose this as a place of learning by eating from the tree of knowledge). I think we pick our time, our parents, what we looks like - even who to come back with (they turn up as super close relationships or soul mates). I think that God wanted a way to communicate with us, so that we could have assistance while we are far from home and that is what prayer and meditation is all about (though people forget that what they think about god sends - so think good thoughts about what you want, not complaints!).
That is how I would describe god. God is the Universal Energy that animates this existence where we can all come and learn in a very interesting and creative way. I think that each and everyone of us contains a spark of that and we are all one - you know what I mean?
Peace!

Since everything directly or indirectly came from God, I'd turn to His works to describe Who He is.

I don't know if it exists....but if I borrow what "kingreef777" has writen above....then GOD must be a bloodthirst mongrel who kills "my enemies", a racist monster who distiguishes people into categories (good and bad) and revengfull beast and a serial killer (considering all the kids that die around the world without reason)..
Don't tell me that the "humans" are responsible for that" You claim that GOD is "powerfull" so, he can fix every fault. But he doesn't want...
NO THX .... I won't take it.

I can't describe something than doesn't exist. If you are talking about the God of the Bible, I only have one word: SELFISH.
