Don’t watch TV or even so much as look at a computer screen at least 30 minutes before you lie down. The light from both a television as well as a computer monitor mimic the same intensity of light as sunlight. This fools your body and brain into thinking it’s nowhere near time for sleep.
Drink milk. Milk has an amino acid in it called Tryptophan that increase the levels of serotonin and/or melatonin in the brain which slow down brain activity. It’s science folks.
Go to bed when you are tired. Different strokes for different folks here. Just because anybody else goes to bed at 9PM doesn’t mean you are ready. You might only require seven and half hours of sleep while they might require ten. If you aren’t tired, do something low-key until you are, like read a book, play solitaire (NOT on your computer), or play with some legos etc.
Reserve the bed for bed things (like sleep). I for one don’t strictly follow this rule as I’ll read some before I go to sleep, but for some people this is a must.
Meditate. No, don’t cross your legs and hum, but focus on relaxing…if that makes sense. Take deep, long breaths. Tense each muscle one at a time from head to toe. Focusing on doing this takes your mind off of other things and you’ll be in lala land in no time.
Excercise during the day. I emphasize during the day. Excercising at night just gets everything going instead of shutting down for sleep. But excercising during the day tires the muscles out and makes for a solid nights sleep.
Best wishes

Yeeow,sedatives/sleeping pills. Forget them. They're addicitve and could be dangerous. Instead check out the suggestions below:
-Eat early - give a break of atleast 3-4 hours between dinner and sleeping.
- Have a light dinner.
-Take a small walk after dinner.
-Sometimes coffee and caffeine products keep people up. Cut out coffee at the dining table or earlier.
.
-TV wakens up yr senses. Atleast one hour before bed instead read.
- A warm drink like hot chocolate or black tea helps.
-Before hitting the sack, say a prayer, think of the nice things that have happened in the day, and fill yr mind with pleasent thoughts. Don't fret and worry. Leave things to god.
-Finally when in bed, relax and plan to have a good night's rest.
-One sure thing that works for me is yoga practice.
In bed, I do some clenching and letting go exercise. I start with my feet and toes and work up to my head, clenching everything and holding by breath. Then clench, clench, clench. then release and exhale. Try it. Works every time for me :)

Try not to stress out. Usually if I can't sleep it's because I'm worrying about a million things. Do something relaxing before you sleep to ease your mind. And seriously (as someone else mentioned), reading a book puts me out so fast, especially textbooks from school. ;-)

Try reading a book at bedtime. Puts me to sleep every time. That is not a joke. Drink some milk before bed. There is something in it that is soothing and puts you to sleep. Try those two things before you do anything else like take drugs. At your age, u don't need drugs.

i was like this before but not anymore now
it means you need to regulate your sleep time
everyday should be the same time when you wake up and when you sleep
after one or two weeks, you'll be able to sleep
so try to go to sleep earlier, like 10:30 or 11:00pm especially if u have school and even tho you're not tired
oh ya, exercise regularly

Do you drink soda/coffee/tea after 4p? (Don't - caffeine can affect you for a long period of time.)
Do you lay in bed to study or at any other time besides going to bed? (Don't - train your mind that your bed is only for sleeping).
Do you take naps at all during the afternoon? (Try the opposite of whatever you are doing).
Have you tried sleeping on a different bed or even on the floor? (Sometimes changing your sleep surface can help).
Good luck and happy dreams!

How old are you? Usually sex or at least masturbation helps a lot. But if you are still too young, then it is out of the question. Else, you might want to try excercise regularly. Food can also cause this kind of problem.
