cheapest way to renew your visa either after 30 days or 60 days (60 when applying at home.. 30 when just coming into Thailand for free), is Myanmar. It costs $5 for a one day 'shopping' visa.
Depending entirely where you are in Thailand of course.
You can go to Cambodia through Poipet by bus from Bangkok, but if you are actually wanting to go to Cambodia I recommend going by ferry. To cross into Cambodia is dependant on who you go through, but generally it's about $25US.
You can keep coming and going until they tell you to get out.

It all depends on what do you want to do here. A transit visa allows you to stay for 30 days, while a normal tourist visa allow you a 60 days, then you must leave the country and come back with a renewed visa. But, if your visit is a solid one on any business; like work, joining with family, study and etc.. you can discuss with the Thai consular and request for what they called a non-immigrant visa with category that suit your stay purpose. These type of visas allow you to say upto three months. After you receive Non-Immigrant Visa; say you do business, it category B, or if you're visiting family it's O, once in Thailand you can go to the Immigration department and request for and extention of visa to one year. During which time you may also request for a residency; if you have good reason, like work, or staying with family. Alternatively, some of my friends have what they call a VIP visa, which will enable you to gain several privileges like play golf on several exclusive clubs, get special treatment at the airport while going through immigration, but to qualify you must be a certain character types, and the cost for these Visa is quite high, but it will permit you to stay longer, and it last for life time (but the policy might change). It really worth to give the Thai Embassy a ring and talk to them about this applying for visa rather than risking for Visa on arrival. Good luck.

30 days free visa stamped on entry, 60 days visa from Thai embassy visa division QUEENS GATE if your in London, take your passport and 2 up to date passport photos, 25 pound Stirling for each entry up to maximum 4 entries valid for 6 months you can down load visa forms off the net, you can extend each visa from 60 days for a further 30, beware of the fact if you over stay your visa after 60 days the first day is free and then you pay on a per day basis that according to the signs in immigration is stated as being a fine and not looked to kindly on ! although almost everyone doesn't seem to see this sign and everyone seems to believe it is a right to have 30 days extra it is probably worth asking when you apply for your visa most areas in Thailand have immigration offices when you get to 60 days go in and talk to them ! since you are asking about a British passport i assume you need information about UK based Thai embassies and consulates, they are listed on the net and I am sure besides the London embassy there are consulates in Birmingham and Hull also! The London embassy you usually have to submit your application one day and return two days later to pick up your passport and visa, top tip if you are going to the London embassy be sure to go early and get a ticket as soon as you go into the door or you can be waiting for a while, the visa section closes at midday each day and also closes on Thai holidays ! have a great trip !

30 days is free, stamped in your passport upon arrival in Thailand. Better: apply in your home country at a Thai Embassy or Consulate for a 60-day tourist visa, extendable in Thailand for an additional 30 days for 1900 Baht (USD50)

The info above looks good, but the answer you might be seeking is that w/some minor inconveniences such as a visa run to the border to renew your visa, you can most likely stay for an indefinite amount of time.

3 months with a tourist visa, actually it is 2 months with one month renewable at the immigration office (40 usd). If you do not have a visa you can stay 1 month.

Probably the better question will be for you to state your duration and someone can recommend the appropriate type of visa that you should be applying for, if you do not want the inconvenience of renewing or paying for it.
