Is this a way of trying to make atheists look bad by saying they've been there, done that?

Im a true Atheist and I know a true Atheist would not convert unless he or she could never get over God being fake which means he or she was never a true Atheist in the first place.

That's like an adult starting back believing in Santa Clause

Weird. I go to Agnostic Meetings all the time, an there's always some jerk ranting and raving and daring god to kill him in the next 3 minutes. But I can't believe they're starting to do the same things at Atheist Meetings! Those damn Atheists should get their own "thing" and stop stealing from Agnostics.

Seriously, I think many people confuse the terms "atheist" and "agnostic" and personally, I have an easier time believing that an agnostic could convert to religion, than an atheist could...

Good luck!

When you say what a "true" atheist would or would not do then you are projecting your own personality on to someone else and jumping to conclusions. That's one of the most common cognitive distortions that all people deal with.

I read the testimony of a person who believed that they were a true atheist. They said they started changing their mind when they were at an atheist meeting and the speaker said that he was going to give "god" a chance to prove him wrong when he said that God didn't exist. He dared God to kill him and gave him 3 minutes to do it.

So he stood there tapping his foot and looking at the clock on the wall and mocking the concept of God and when the 3 minutes were over he said "See! I told you there was no such thing as God!".

The guy who later converted said that he realized that there really wasn't one true atheist in that meeting because everyone was watching the clock and wondering on some level whether or not anything would happen.

So maybe you are the exception that proves the rule and the people you think are lying about being former atheists just don't have the same high standard of what it means to be a "true" atheist as you do.

As a former Agnostic I think that it is illogical to positively believe that God doesn't exist since it can't be proved. In other words you have to have "faith" to believe that God doesn't exist.

I am an atheist, I haven't changed my mind. But why couldn't someone, what your saying about knowing a true atheist couldn't convert back isn't a fact it is only an opinion. All a true atheist means is that someone truly doesn't believe that there is a high being of any kind.

As far as the person who said it is illogical to positively believe that God doesn't exist because you can't prove it, well then it would go the same for the other side. Which would mean you aren't a former agnostic, you are still one, in fact that would make everyone agnostic.

That makes complete sense, I guess, if you are an atheist. Why are you so angry if you are so happy to be God-free?

I was an atheist, or thought I was anyway, but by the Grace of God, I know better now. I am not trying to make you look bad, you have the right to feel however you want. And I have the right to pray for you.

God Bless.

You need to ask the ones who have done this. Who's to say that they weren't atheists who finally opened their eyes and accepted God. It must scare you, in some way, that it can happen.

i think some christians would say that because they werent aware of God and what the bible is about etc they werent given a choice in what to believe, you cant say your an atheist and wont believe in God if you werent aware He existed in the first place! hope this makes sense......

ok :)

I used to be an atheist. Over a period of time however, I grew convinced of the existence of the Christian God, and ultimately committed my life to Christ (e.g., see http://www.godsci.org/gs/chri/testimony/seek.html ).

For scientific and intellectual evidence for the existence of God, see http://www.godsci.org/gs/godsci/evidence.htm

Cordially,
John
