God gave man free will, that is where the, "friendly fire" that is evident in some churches today stems from. In those churches people are often ridiculed and turned away from being saved by judgemental parishioners and even clergy. My favorite evangelist, Jesse Duplantis, went to a church to get saved, and was treated very poorly because at the time he had long hair and wore trendy clothes(back in the early 70's). He got saved in a bathroom, after watching Billy Graham on t.v.
As to what does it a novelty t-shirt say about My Religion, and God, Absolutely Nothing. It is just a t-shirt, not proof that every Christian is a judgemental jerk:)

It says to me that there are extremists in every religious group, be they Muslims, Christians, Jews, etc. and that these are the people that get the most publicity because the media is attracted to what will provoke their viewers, listeners, etc. By and large, I don't think most Christians are like Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson etc. Some of it also has to deal with one's particular view on their holy scriptures, that is, do they take a "literal" view or not. If one has a literal view of scripture, then it's easier to get wrapped up in what can't be done, or who's doing wrong and pointing it out to them and by doing this it's easy to lose focus of the true message of scripture: Love one another, treat each other with kindness, seek justice for all, feed and clothe the hungry and needy. I speak as a Christian, however I do think that some of these are tenets of Jewish faith and of Islam, but I am not an expert on either.

In my opinion, I guess some insecure losers join the church because they think that being religious, and acting better than others, is the only way that they can feel good about themselves (they can't look down on you because they are more sucessful, or better looking, for example, because they are neither.). Not everyone comes to church becasue they are trying to improve their own character (which is the right reason).
And we in the church are too polite to run anybody off, because we are hoping that if they stick around long enough, they might learn something from us and improve. We are the only groop who officially are supposed to accept everybody (but Christians are also supposed to have enough of a spine to stand up to someone who claims to be Christian but is acting badly -- according to St. Paul (1 Cor. 5) -- but we never do because we are too lazy to explain to someone that he is a jerk and needs to repent. (Matt. 18: 15-19; Gal. 6:1; James 5:19-20)).
How's that for a theory?

We attract a lot of A**hole* because we are the only ones that will put up with them and love them. They come to God because they know that they need forgiveness and to change at some level. It just takes them a while to get there.
I'd rather go to church with a bunch of A**hole* than a church full of perfect people any day!

Maybe this passage contains the answer to your question. :o)
1 Corinthians 1:26 For you see your calling, brothers, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many powerful, not many noble, are called. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world in order that He might humiliate the wise, and God chose the weak things of the world in order that He might humiliate the mighty. 28 And the base things of the world, and the things having been despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, in order that He might nullify the things which are, 29 so that no flesh may boast before God.

Such individuals are present in all worldviews and religions.
Jesus died for such people too... with the intention of providing them the opportunity to change if they were to choose to do so...
Cordially,
John
