Everyone is different. If you are a therapist you should wait and if the client starts talking, then talk.

Me personally, no.

My therapist always asks whether or not I feel like talking. Sometimes she tells me that I am too stressed(by studying my body language)and maybe talking is not a good idea this time.
I love to talk, by the way.

when receiving a massage I like my massage therapist to tell me what they are doing,

ie. I am going to start with your.... arms ... face... whatever...

I don't really like them chatting about anything that isnt relative to me being there for a massage.

I would want them to just ask first. Some days I am in the mood to chat, but most days I am not. Usually -when I am not in a chatty mood, I just say I want to meditate in silence while they work, please. I tip well.

No way. I'm there to relax, not chat...

BUT... that's just me. I'm sure there are some people who would prefer a little conversation.
