I can not tell you how much bull people have to say about dreads. I have them and I'm white so I get people saying crap all the time, not that this bothers me. Mine are healthy and well kept. People have this idea of dreads as being dirty, I have no Idea where the hell they get this.
Anywho enough about them, honey if you want them get them/ Here are some pros and cons
Pros: low maintenance after the initial couple of months, they look awesome, you total with stand out, and you live a normal life with a normal job. It's like a haircut, it's not going to change you.
Cons: The process takes forever for permanent dreads (I Backcombed, 12hrs. 74 dreads), in the first three months the can look bad but that's because they are locking up., More then likely you will have to cut your hair if you don't like them (after 6months that is before that alot of conditioner and a metal brush should work them out)
The best bit of advice is if you decide they are right for you, get them no matter what people may say, and research the size you want that way they will be the way you want them dreadheadhq.com is a great site.
Peace love and rock your hair.

Ugly Dreads

they are not ugly or dirty. I've had them for 7 years and I love my hair, and I would never cut them. Yes, it takes work to get them and maintain them. My hair took about 8 months to lock, I think it'd take a bit longer for a white person because your hair tends to be straighter. Let me warn you, during this time when your hair isn't completely locked which I call the "busted" time, people will be like what's wrong with you? what are you doing to your hair? but don't listent to them. It will come out beautiful in the end. I hope I helped, good luck!

The decision to Grow dreads shouldn't depend on the opinions of others. This question shows that you are not ready. In the meantime you can try some 'natural' styles like twists-ins or twist-outs, cornrows or just try wetting your hair and letting it go! Once you gain enough confidence to wear your natural hair then go and see a Loctician...and research make sure you know the ins and outs of keeping and maintaining Locs because they aren't easy if you want them to look good!! Visit these websites.....

Hope this Helps!! Good luck on your Natural Journey!!

it depends on the type of dread. some real rasta's will have a few really big dreads in their hair, then you'll see people with medium sized ones, my girlfriend has very skinny one's and i like those best. also, some people dont keep up with washing and twisting their dreads, that makes a big difference in how they look.no, i didnt like johnny deps either.
