I know just what you mean! I don't know what your boyfriend is like, but this is how I approached it:
"You used to love riding a bike in college! Why don't you do that when you're bored?"
"I don't want you dying of a heart attack when you're 40. Don't you want to be around for our kids? (We've been dating 3 years, so this was appropriate)
"It'll save you so much money in the future if you take care of your health now. (As in, drink less Diet Coke and go swimming more, etc.)
And there were a few random sex enticements thrown in (wouldn't it be much better if... we could go longer, etc.) But I don't know if you're at the stage.

First, you choose the man. If you love the man for who he is then you won't mind a few extra pounds.
But here are some RISKS you can take. I would love for my women to be honest about this with me. It personally wouldn't offend me at all. But that is just me during my current state of mind. I'm not overwieght either. I was and decided to loose about 90 pounds. No one told me to do this. Now I'm thin, muscular and confident about myself.
You see this all the time with some married couples. "Henry, you can't have another one of the cookies!!! Look at that stomach!!
But this is usually after people are quite confident with each and take sh*t on a daily basis without getting offended. Mostly older folks.
You can say, "I'm worried about your health". ect.
I don't know how this person reacts to normal situations. Some men tell women to loose weight. Sometimes the result is ok and sometimes it is not. It really depends on the person.
If you two are very confident with each then it should be ok.
Option 1. You can take a risk, you might have to deal with a little defensive feedback but the end result would be that both of you are more happy. Most guys don't take weight issues about themselves very emotionally.
Option 2. You don't tell him how you feel and you, especially are not that happy. This is a problem for you.
Option 3- Say, You need to be eating more healthy. I love you want you to look your best and stay healthy. Still tell him is very attractive.
Remeber all of these are risks. You have to know the person and the status of your relationship in order to make this decision. usually better to be safe than sorry.

Try looking for low calorie recipes once or twice a week. People always get tired of eating the same things. That way he will think you are trying something new. On weekends plan a date that envolves some kind of exercise. Examples-bike riding together-taking walks-swimming-or even a small sports event that you both enjoy. Maybe a little tennis, badmitten or fishing trip. Of course don't forget the number one exercise sex lol.

If he is a beer drinker (or any alcohol) then that could be the cause. Just switch him over to light beer, lower calories drinks and fewer drinks overall. But ask yourself: do you really think it would hurt *his* feelings or are you thinking that it would hurt *your* feelings if the situation were reversed? I never say anything about weight bc i know it would bother me but I've had boyfriends actually get mad that i *didn't* tell them when they were starting to get overweight.

Suggest some fun, active activities you two can do together, like biking, hiking, canoeing, etc. Or join a gym together, telling him you want to get in shape. That way he'll appreciate the time you have together and you'll both get more active.

Go to they gym with him and workout, go for walks, go for a swim with him, go dancing together....do anything that is physically active and that should help. Guys have an easier time of losing weight and fat than women do!
