My sons grandmother , his fathers mother,is a "real piece of work" ill put it like that ..she has always wanted weird things , like she wanted some of my sons hair for a keepsake..hes MY son..she tried getting away with his ambilocol stump..yes this is frckn weird i know..and lots of other strange things..anyway i had to go apply for some programs with her and I had to bring my sons birth certificate and soc card with me ..( she also likes to screw with taxes,shes always trying to mess with mine , i just dont trust her with anything )..so I was at her house and I let her copy the birth form from the hospital with the feet on it but when she asked for the real certif. I said no..I could tell she was offended..but I dont trust her . anyway as im leaving the next day I was worried I might have misplaced the copy I made of his soc & CERT..she makes a point to tell me that she can apply for both and get it ..I told her no she cant , and she went on about how she could..she cant can she?

I would hope not! Is this lady nuts? I would talk to my husband and tell him to let her know she is really offending you and you don't appreciate the way that she is being. Whew and I thought my mother-in-law was a piece of work.

Really. She can't. Only the parents can get those. And of course the child, if he is 17.

She could either not totally be in her right mind or she could be practicing witchcraft. I have read up on Wicca in the past and there are spells to do all kinds of stuff with different things- hair, the imbilical chord, twigs, water, mirrors, etc.

My guess is you are overly paranoid and she is just trying to protect her grandson and be there for him in the only way she knows how. From what you have said, she doesn't sound like she has done anything dangerous. People shouldn't be feared just because they're a little different. Maybe she practices witchcraft- if she does- to give her a sense of control because she is insecure and I'm sure she can sense that you don't like her and that probably just makes her insecurity worse. You should try to get to know her better. You may find that you actually have more in common than you thought.

I'm sure one thing the two of you already have in common is that you both love your son and want what's best for him. So, how's it going to hurt anything if she has a little of his hair? Give her some if that makes her feel more secure. I wouldn't allow her to teach your son this stuff though. He doesn't need to be going around trying to chast spells on people. He would probably get teased by the kids in the neighborhood as he gets older.

The birth certificate yes, but not the SOC card. Social security admin. needs about 4 things for proof ( in order for you to get another card -Those 4 things, only the father or mother possesses. 1-The mother Drivers license, 2-mother's birth certificate and 3- mother's SS#, and 4-a hospital record (to prove your son is living - or even exist))
Don't give these 4 things to anyone!!! Don't give anything to her either! you're weirdo grandma doesn't stand a chance with the SOC card, but the Birth cert. she can get one, if she can afford 20 dollars to pay for it.

Depending on the state of the birth but I think in any she would have to show proof that she is now the legal guardian and that there is a need for the certificate and birth certificate.

Don't worry just keep all your important documents in a locked safe and keep her occupied in the living room and kitchen when she's at your house. Don't let her even use your upstairs bathroom cuz then she'll only snoop in the medicine cabinet.

Oh wow. how Did you husband turn out with a mother like that? I would call births deaths and marriages to find out for sure and ask if they can put a note on the computer saying on you or your husband can apply for it. What a weirdo

not to sure about the s.s. card but she can order a copy of the birth certificate
To get a replacement card, you will need to:

Complete an Application For A Social Security Card (Form SS-5);
Present a recently issued document to show your identity;
Show evidence of your U.S. citizenship if you were born outside the United States and did not show proof of citizenship when you got your card; and
Show evidence of your current lawful non citizen status if you are not a U.S. citizen.
Your replacement card will have the same name and number as your previous card.
just looked this up for you if she can provide them with the info they request then yes she can get a copy of his s.s. card as well.

i would say the only way she could do that is if you gave her the cert. and she copied it and changed stuff on it or else his father may have something to do with it but she can not do it with out a legal parents permission so if all else fails get law involved so that is all i can tell you

Call your local social security and public records office and ask. Maybe they can put something in your sons file that says not to let her have his information. I thought my mother in law was a psycho! Wow, good luck with that!

She doesn't have a right to his personal info as far as I know. Is the woman a schizophrenic? She seems incredibly strange! Try to avoid giving her any personal info from now on.

Well, as far as I know, she can't apply for your son's IDs unless she pretends to be his parent or legal guardian.

As for her other behavior, I would just keep my son's stuff away from her. Don't be bothered if she's offended. She seems harmless, but it is nevertheless, quite annoying.
