My dog was bitten today, but she didn't have her rabies shot yet since we just adopted her. Should I take her in in the morning to get it, or is it just too late?

I do know the dog that bit her, and it is my guess that she does NOT have her shots, but also probably does NOT have rabies. I could not find any puncture wounds on my dog, so I wasn't planning on takin her to the vet unless a rabies shot can work after the fact.

NOPE I could be wrong and you should ask a vet to be sure.. but I beleive if your dog was exposed to rabies the vaccine will not help they use another series of shots if exposure is confirmed

however your dog should get its rabies shot and all vaccinations anyhow since there are other diseases it can get just as easy

Do you know who owns the dog that bit your dog? If you do, you need to find out if their dog had a rabies shot. Was the other dog showing any signs of rabies, such as foaming at the mouth? Take the dog to the vet, and he will want to clean the wounds out and give you anitibiotics for her. He can tell you what you need to do as far as vaccinations go.

If there are no puncture wounds then more than likely there is no chance that your dog has rabies from the attack. I would take her to the vet and tell him what happened and he will probably just give her the shot. good luck.

Bravo for keeping your dog contained and being concerned about her health. I see what you mean, like when someone gets stuck with a nail and then gets a tetanus shot AFTER the fact, but I think rabies is different because rather than an infection it is a disease. Not 100% sure but I work at a vets office, I will ask the vet tomorrow and let you know!

You probably don't have anything to worry about unless the dog that bit it was foaming at the mouth. If the other dog had an owner talk to the owner and see if it was alright rabies wise. But my all means you should have your dog get a rabies shot.

First for rabies to be transfered their must be an exchange of body fluids (salva or blood). the best thing to do if your dog was bitten is to get the opinion of a veterinarian and follow the advice. I would recomend getting your dog vaccinated ASAP so this is not a concern for you and keep your dog safe by confinment and supervision.

I would first try and find the owner of the dog that bit your dog. If you can`t I would call my vet or take your dog to the vet{that is if money isn`t a burden} and have your vet check out the bite and maybe he would help your dog`s wound by cleansing it. This is something that you don`t want to prolong!

You can get it done, but you need to wait the 2 quarrintine weeks till you know everyone's healthy, then you can go get it done. You can also have the dog pound make that person go get their dog vaccinated. Call them tommorrow to report it.
