He was invited to attend BYU and a party offered to pay his tuition, books et al. This person told us this a year ago and we wait! I home schooled him or rather he has schooled me tremendously. My problem is paying for this kind of education. The US needs goal directed, self-directed young people desperately and I've got one!

He wants to work in Internation Law or practice law in some capacity. He is also brilliant in history, writing and medical studies. It is a WASTE for a childs' mind to be lost due to financial concerns. CactusLil'

I don't understand...didn't you say someone offered him a full ride scholarship to BYU??!! Why didn't you take that or why don't you take it now?

Otherwise:

1. Apply for FAFSA. Google it and go to the government website. You will have to fill out forms about your taxes and then they will process your application and award you grants and/or loans based on your need.

2. Why don't you send your son to community college if you can't afford a university right now? This might be a better transition for him anyways. Community college is not expensive, and you can still get the FAFSA aid AND many community colleges have their own fee waivers and grants within the system. All you have to do is just start calling around and asking questions.

4. If you want him to go straight to university check out the private ones who are more inclined to give out larger grants and scholarships, and to recruit prodigy and young people who will make their establishment look good. Contact the office of admissions and explain your situation.

5. If none of this works, send him to FREE public high school. Sure, it may be work that is a little "below" him, but most schools have enrichment and/or gate classes for the advanced students, they may not be AS advanced as your son is, but with all the projects, reading, homework, etc. I am sure he will be at least mildly stimulated. The upside is that there is no reason he should not be getting staight As so that will look awesome on college applications, and he may even get a full ride scholarship, especially if you encourage him to get involved in extracurricular activities such as a sport, community service, theatre, leadership, band, etc.! I assure you he will find some things to excel in that will tickle his fancy, plus he will be with peers close to his own age which is very important. You may want to reconsider robbing him of a normal education in high school. Stop home schooling him where he is TEACHING YOU and give him a chance to blossom as a person, make friends, and gain new awareness and interests.

6. If you want to send him to college, and don't get enough financial aid, you can also take out a private loan.

Good luck!

Ask a local college advisor for help with scholarships and grants. Look at your local library for books on such. You'll be amazed at how many non-profit organisations and foundations there are that support such funding.

you can send him to a public school for free.

if he is as intelligent as you say he is, he will do well on tests and obtain scholarships to attend a university.
