into thinking the United States will come to its aid in case of an all out hostility against Israel by Arab countries. And if the U.S. does come to Israel's aid, would the U.S. abandon Israel to its fate if thier military campaigns bring other nations such as China and Russia against Israel?

I tell you what Israel is one of the only sane nations left. They don't tolerate BS from other nations. The G8 needs to put pressure on Syria to influence Hezbollah and cut off the weapons to them.

I certainly hope we would support Israel no matter what the circumstances. I'm not as sure as other answerers that China and Russia wouldn't get involved though, so there may not be a lot of time for choosing sides anyway. Yes China is sitting pretty good right now but there's one thing they need a lot of...oil. Russia too. This is only speculation but suppose Israel goes after syria, Iran, or both. That might bring the whole arab world into it. So then imagine that the U.S. and Israel are taking them all on. China and Russia would be scared to death that we'd gain some kind of control over oil. You don't think they'd act? I'm not predicting, all I'm saying is I don't think you can be all that accurate guessing the outcome of hypotheticals. But, back to the question...I can't imagine the U.S. ever not standing with Israel, but then again...we have had some pretty wimpy presidential candidates in the past. I am sure many Americans individually would fight for Israel but the firepower of the military would be needed more than people.

No Israel has not been misled. For a variety of reasons, the U.S. will not let Israel go down:
religious - how can Jesus return if the Jews don't control Israel?
military - U.S. loses all credibility with Japan, S.Korea, NATO, Taiwan and anyone else we defend if we let Israel go down.
culturally - they all speak English and love America
ethically - supporting them is the right thing to do.

Russia and China will fight America indirectly at best. Why risk all out nuclear war against America? Russian oil sells at an alltime high right now. China's export economy will fail if we stop buying their stuff. The downside is too big for them.

It is possible, but not likely. I think China wants nothing to do with these conflicts and I thing Russia is not capable of managing a global conflict. Given that the U.S. has already spent 200 billion hunting terrorist that may or may not still be alive--I'm not sure the U.S. is ready either. If the Israelis attack Syria its all over. Cooler heads hopefully will prevail. I've been thinking similar questions to this one. What is scary is I think most Americans believe they have no say in any of this. We are a nation run by our military. Our people are misinformed and poorly educated on global affairs. Pray for peace people.

In order to be misled, you first have to be led. The US has NEVER said it would come in on Israel's side under any circumstances. That's not so say that we won't if it serves our interests, but who knows at this point.

We arm Israel so they are strong conventionally, cause if they weren't they'd be forced to rely on nukes for survival, and that's bad. We also share certain intell back and forth when it serves our own interests. Don't be misled yourself into thinking we are great friends & military allies, we are not.

The popular US oppinion, but not treaty obligation, is to intervene at the point Isreal's continued survival is at threat - ie right before they'd start using nuclear weapons to prevent being overrun & the commencing of ethinic cleansing among the children & granchildren of holocaust survivers. There is probably a point before that where it is in the US interest to intervene, but more likely as a peacemaker, followed by UN peacekeepers.

No Israel has not been mislead. The US will stand with them.
No, the US would not abandon them. China they have but Russia is doubtful. We have Japan, Britain & other European countries,
Canada & Kuwait & a few other misc. countries. Russia will not back a losing war & China has beed hedging it's bets in UN over Iran already.

You do not leave your friends when the times get tough. Well you may but the US doesn't.

ISRAEL IS GOD'S CHOSEN NATION!!!! I'M KIDDING FOLKS, WHO DO YOU THINK PARTED THE RED SEA WHEN THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL ESCAPED FROM EGYPT??? IT WASN'T MOSES, FOLKS - IT WAS GOD.

BEWARE!!! IF THE USA OR ANYONE ELSE SAYS ANYTHING BAD ABOUT ISRAEL OR DOESNT HELP ISRAEL, THEY ARE DRINKING DEATH AND DESTRUCTION UPON THEMSELVES!!!! GOD WILL UNLEASH HIS FULL WRATH ON THE WORLD, AND ISRAEL AND HER ALLIES WILL BE THE ONLY ONES SPARED.

BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, just kidding, but seriously, I think the USA getting into hot water being so loyal to Israel. The people are never going to stop fighting, and we would be better off not involving ourselves. As to Israel being misled? I don't think anyone can say. Israel will probably expect America to help, but its all a very sticky situation. Theres no telling what might happen.

It won't happen. Israel knew the US was wrapped up with Iraq, Iran and N. Korea. I don't think Israel is depending on anyone.

I'm more concerned with N. Korea. They fired missiles and got the attention they so desperately needed. Now Israel stole the limelight. I suspect we'll see more missiles from N. Korea fairly soon.

The answer is no - for now. When Hillary is elected President the tables will turn. That will be the time for Israel (and the rest of our allies) to start worrying.
