It depends on what your life goals are.
If you want to maximize your pay and career choices, you want to study hard and get good grades. A little play is important though, so you don't burn out. And by "a little," I mean only play when you have finished your work, and get enough rest to do well in your studies.

I'm not sure how possible it is to do nothing but study and remain above average for long. Studying hard is a great thing, but you NEED days where you can just do nothing and "play" or you'll lose your mind and you won't even be able to enjoy the benefits of your hard work.

Study hard from the start and you will reap the benefits in the long run. you get to better higher institutions, you'll be most likely able to command a higher pay in the workforce and people tend to look up to you in a way. parents will be very happy with you. in the long run, almost everything is positive. need not worry abt a small pay packet and your family will not have to worry for you to make ends meet. you'll be able to provide better for your kids eventually. there are many other positive factors but in the end, you'll feel better as a person and feel as though you have achieved more than those who have not studied hard in the beginning.
all work and no play makes jack a dull boy. just have to balance how much of it to contribute to your success

It depends on your reason for enrollment in your school. If one is enrolled, primarily to socialize and to mate, play may be more important, at times than study. However, most of the time, a student enrolled in school is there to learn what he or she needs to know to earn money and to succeed in daily life challenges. In the latter instance, studying hard and getting higher grades is most important.

If you are trying to get into college you need to be well rounded. Make sure that you know something other then facts. Volunteer on a political campaign. Learn an unusual instrument. If you are going to play make sure that you learn while you play.
I would suggest that you take one day per week to rest (I mean really rest.) and give 100% for the other 6.

NOONe asks you what grades you got in college and so little of that will apply word for word in the work placed so play on. In the end the piece of paper is all that matters. Nothing else. The exception, might be if you know you want to go to grad school.
