I know pretty much how the middle east lays out as far as sides goes if this new conflict escalates. But can people tell me where the EU ( and it's individual countries ), Russia, China, Japan and the UN will fall if this thing turns into a multi-faceted war?

The EU (not including UK) has valuable biz relationships with Muslim nations. They also like U.S. They don't mind seeing the U.S. go it alone because they know we'll win and they won't have to pay.

The UK backs the U.S. unconditionally ...but after the Iraq war problems will offer no military support.

Russia and China would love to see the U.S. military lose (but certainly not have our economy at home hurt). They think we have too much influence abroad. Also, they have weapons contracts at stake with Iran, etc.

Japan supports U.S. but relatively silently since they buy lots of oil from the mideast.

The UN does nothing. Any resolution attempted by the U.S. will be vetoed or stalled. Any resolution by the other side will be vetoed by the U.S.

China will definitely side with Middle East. Europe, US will side against them. Russia is an unknown - they lean towards Middle East but will choose the side they think has best chance of winning. Russia can not afford to lose, their country is in shambles & only their finances are in worse shape. They need international support - losing side would not get that. Canada will stay on fence awhile & then side with Europe & US against Middle East. That is the way the G* is going. China & Russia have actucually wavered in their support of Middle East after hearing US & Britian's strong opposition to Lebanon.
