Well depends on what the occasion is and what sort of behaviour you have shown on previous occasions where gifts are given to her.
Birthday if you don;t want her to know what is comming up then give her a small but meaningfull gift. Nothign to outlandish
Annerversiary of you getting together once again something small but from the heart it could relate back to where you met or you first date or something you loved to do together so much and then spring the ring on her!

How cute! If you are dying to spend money on her. Get concert or theater tickets. If you want to spend a fortune, go on a trip with her. If you want a commitment type of gift, get her a plant, plant it with her, name it, and tell her if it is still alive in a month, you can go get a puppy together. And if that is still alive in a year, you can have some babies together.
And if the kids are still alive, you can take over a small country together!

personally i would love a shopping certificate from my favorite store , or if you want to go way out buy her a car of her dreams , take her out to a nice resturant or a place she loves and propose to her . yeah and possessions dont matter just if you would want to . let her love you for who you are not for whats in your bank account..
