An event happened to my little 9 year old daughter and her friend that is freaking me out. Should I be worried

My friend informed me that when our girls were playing alone together in her backyard on the tramp with the garden hose, that (and they both tell the same story) they saw a snake. And then the hose started squirming around and spelling out letters. It spelled out "I'll take eight snakes or one of you." When I asked my daughter about it she said that it happened and is very freaked out by the whole experience. (tearful and doesn't want to talk about it)
I know that her friend was screaming that it must have been Satan after it happened. I'm totally distraught by this. I want to believe that it was just two little girls making stuff up...but my gut says otherwise. My daughter is very smart and kindof past the imaginary story phase. Anyway....what do you all think?

We are religious...but no funky speaking in tongues churches. I am mentally stable and have a college degree as does my little girls friends mother. We are not wack a doos.

My father is a psychologist and of course he says it was just overactive imagination. The girls are healthy happy children with stable intact two parent families with mothers who stay home. My daughter was brought home from the hospital to this house and has attended the same school since she began.

I just have to say thanks for all of you who have replied with amazing supportive advice...and to those of you who were sarcastic and skeptical, I appreciate your wit and humor. Believe me...I know how crazy this sounds.

I have a hard time believing letters came out. I could believe 8 baby snakes came out. Except in a wee-gee board one can be entranced by spirits to cause a message. As far as a hose to spell out something like that, it would have to be a pretty bad spirit. Is it possible one girl was tackling the water hose. If so a bad spirit could have entranced her to spell it with water. Or cause Her to try to trick Her friend.

Whether they are making it up or not, a bad spirit is at the root of it. You need to pray to the Bible God about it. Pray & wait on the Lord, until He gives you clear direction on your child & her friend. Pray with your daughter and Her friend. God loves your children more than you do.

Also, when my children have been frightened, I pray with them & take authority over any of their fears. I tell them they can pray to God and Jesus loves them and they can give Him all their fears.

Teach them to thank God for taking care of them & their family. Give thanks in all things, for this pleases God.

I would intercede, pray over them whenever the thought or concern arises, until I get the assurance everything is all right from heaven.

As the Pastor advised me this morning, I advise you to pray passionately for your children.


Being religious doesn't help against spiritual wickedness that may be attacking your child & friend. Having Faith in God does. That is a relationship. I am a born again, Holy Spirit filled Christian, and I have been delivered from evil praying in the Spirit to my Savior. For me, the quickest way if I am attacked is to submit to God. Pray to Him. Pay attention to God. Ask God why? Resist Satan. Satan flees. Works every time. It is different when praying for someone else being oppressed. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. I believe you have a real attack on your family & friends. You need to get over religion, & get right with God.


I Just thank you right now Oh God for saving these children. Bring them to your peace, your love, your protection. Deliver them from every wicked think that is frightening them. Let them know that you love them & are there for them. Thank you, Jesus Christ the Lord & Savior of the world. I pray for the parents, Lord. That they find comfort in your Love and assurance that everything is taken care of. For all things work for the good for those who trust in you. I also ask for extra Godly Angels to watch over these children and their families. I praise you that even the smallest child of God can stomp on Satan's head. And that this is done right now. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Satan you are going down and let loose from these families. I take full authority over you. I submit unto my God, & you have to flee. I plead the blood of Jesus over every member of these families. I thank you God for the complete victory in this battle for these families.

Exactly how would a hose spell out these words? I mean, just for the sake of argument, let's say it happened. Did the hose spell them in the air? If so how could you read that with any certainty?
Do they claim it spelled these words on the ground? That would take up a lot of area and should have left some evidence.

I would not believe that this actually occurred. Instead I would examine what influences my child is exposed to. Nine yr olds can come up with some pretty good ones. You say that you are religious. What exactly does that mean to you? If this story freaked you out, then I would suggest that you study the scriptures so that you can gain a knowledge that will keep you from worrying about these childish things.

There is more to this story than is being told. . .and you may not know about it.

That said. . .your daughter is far more advanced than my 9 year old son. . .who would have been so preoccupied with his fear of snakes that he would NOT have had the discipline. . .patience. . .or memory. . .to carefully. . .read. . .what amounts to twenty-eight (28) letters!

My sense though is that your daughter's unconscious or subconscious played an advanced trick on her waking reality. . .yes, there was a real snake (of the harmless, backyard variety?). . .and the hose did move around. . .and letters could be readily made from even randomness.

Also, this incident may very well be a symptom of something disturbing one or both girls are having to deal with right now. . .something they are observing. . .something that involves them. . .something they have been learning about (like "fire and brimstone in hades" in Sunday School?). . .and it manifested itself this way. . .assuming they are not playing games with the adults.

Therefore, I would agree with one of the previous responders. . .some counseling (whether religious or not) might be in order. . .to get to the bottom of what happened.

In the mean time. . .let's hope the "snake" found 8 other snakes! And. . .by the way. . .Satan is not a snake. . .this slithering character in Genesis is NOT Lucifer. . .even if you believe in Lucifer.

Children bounce back with amazing resilience and innocence. . .provided the adults do not make too much or too little out of matters. ..and, once resolved, it needs to be over and forgotten.

If you are joking, then disregard my next sentences after a good laugh.

If you are not joking then; maybe they scared each other with a scarey story. It'll come to light later.

If their story is true, look closely at the stress levels in your daughters life. If there really is some extraordinary amount of stress in her life, try to notice when it happens.

For me it happened around that age when I tried to sleep. I was 9. I'm now 45. What I think that I was seeing was a spirit that wanted to enter into my body. I thought that it looked sad, but before I could make a decision it started to enter through me. It didn't focus on any one part of me that I know of, but it was outside of me entering inside of me.

Not too long after that I began to have experiences that would make me afraid and tremble. A sound would reverberate in my head and affect the way I felt, and the way other things felt to me.

I repeat, I was 9. And drugs were not a part of my life. Being asleep was not a part of the experience, I was awake and it was shortly after bedtime that I would experience this. I had recently moved to Arizona from California, and never knew a place for more than a year before that. My father, who I did not live with after moving to Arizona, would move every year at the least. So I did not have any long lasting friends.

I added all this information for you and your daughters benefit. I don't know what is relevent in all this- something that might be a pattern that you would recognize. Be very sure that you know whether or not your daughter was ever sexually molested, that also might be something to consider.

I think that it was a spiritual thing, something that me or any of my family were completely ignorant of at the time. If it is directed at your daughter, you must protect her. I am now protected, for when I became a Christian, the attack came again but was defeated. It wasn't a non-event conversion for me!

I hope that your daughter is not to be attacked. But the other little girl must also be protected. I hope this helped. I'll pray for your and the other little girls family.

I would probably sit her down and see if she will talk about it some more. Maybe that way you can be for certain that she is telling you the truth. However, if she is that tearful about it, I would be inclined to believe her too! Maybe tell her that because of their fear of the snake, they may have imagined the hose spelling out letters. It's easy to let your mind wander when scary things happen. It may even pass in a few days if she focuses on something else.

Kids dont get past the imaginary story phase it just becomes to lying when they get to be teenager, seriously it's probably just playing, i did it as a kid with my best friend, We made up a story about clowns that drove around in a van and kidnapped kids, totally made up by us but it didnt stop me being so scared that i couldnt leave my house alone for 3 months! Kids imaginations run away with them, she's just freaked herself out a bit, i doubt very much it is the work of Satan.

I think it is very possible that it was just there imaginations. Even at 9, a child can have a big imagination, especially around a friend. It may even seem real and scary to them now. I would let some time go by, I think a little bit more time will tell if it is something to be concerned about.

There are WAY too many letters in the phrase " I'll take eight snakes or one of you" for those girls to make out in a garden hose twisting even IF it was the truth. I wouldnt worry about it as I highly doubt that it is the truth. I wouldnt encourage their over-active imagination unless it was to fuss at them for telling such a tale!

whatever you do believe your daughter...it definitely could have been Satan because he does have quite a bit of power in this world...as long as your daughter is a believer in Christ God's power will be behind her all the way...nothing evil can touch her...I believe her but I won't pretend to know what message was trying to be sent...Satan can scare your daughter but he cannot touch or possess her because she is an inoscent child in the eyes of God....fear not for he is with her...tell her she does not have to be afraid...listen to her and always believe her...I find it very doubtful that a child her age can put on a show that elaberate and what for? I always ask the same thing when I hear these stories; Are you (or the girl your daughter was playing with) in a church that teaches "tongues". If you are get out of it. Christians who open themselves up to physic experiences open the door to demonic encounters, and they are real.

if it did happen, it was satan. Really, you should find a pastor, but first of all know that you have been given authority over satan. When jesus died on the cross, he paid the price for all your sins. that means he has nothing to hold against you! So take authority over him and tell him to leave your kids alone.
