My religion doesn't include the concepts of heaven and hell yet I still pray. I pray to talk with my deities and nurture relationships with them. I try to live my life productively. Rewards and punishments pale to the sense of honor and joy that I receive when I feel that I have pleased my deities and I can look at myself in a mirror and be happy with what I see.

I guess you are asking for the Reason why we pray to God, the Reason why we try to be good.
Reason of praying to God:
You see, beforehand we must come to a common definition so that you and I know what we are talking about.
Heaven: a state of being with God.
Hell: a state of not being with God.
Hmm... after defining heaven and hell, I really don't get your question. Heaven cannot exist without Hell and vice versa.
If both don't exist, I guess God don't exist. If God don't exist, how are we going to pray to God?
Reason for being good:
Well, there are so many reasons for man to be good. Firstly, it creates peace and freedom. We all want freedom. To be free from sickness, free from harm and danger, free from pain, free from sadness, free from stress, free from problems.
That's why we try to be good. Because we know the outcome of being good is freedom!
Better still, if we go the extra mile and give a helping hand to our neighbours, what does that create? It creates friendship, it creates a caring environment. How does that benefit us? Well, it just feels good to have caring people.

Please read this. It's an important point to me. I think it's the source of much misunderstanding in the world and indeed on Y! Answers. Zerosopher's response is a very intelligent one, I think, btw.
Imagine someone (a man) who has no care for other people's feelings whatsoever. He would maybe go out and if he's hungry he takes some food from the shop (stealing is no longer a sin), if he gets angry at people he might hit them (violence is no longer a sin), if he wanted sex he might rape somebody if they didn't respond in similar kind to his sexual desires (rape is no longer a sin). I think this uncaring character would pretty quickly end up being attacked himself and would anyway very soon find himself in prison, God or no God.
This highlights my major point that religion is not half as important a defining character of modern society as morality is (and the law which punishes for the breaking of society's moral taboos).
Zerosopher's point is a really good one because it shows that animals have their own form of morality. A hierarchy of status exists within animal groups and animals grow up much as people grow up to conform to the codes of their group. When they break the boundaries by taking more of their alotted share of food or engage in intercourse with someone they shouldn't they are punished with violence by the other group members. This is very similar to how humans operate at a fundamental level.
So without heaven and hell would I be good? Well, I'm not sure I am very good. I'm always thinking about myself although, actually and notably, this breaks no moral codes in our society, is a much accepted norm of behaviour. But heaven and hell don't really make a difference. I do care about other people's feelings and so I wouldn't try to hurt other people any more than I do now.
Now if there was no law I think I would travel further afield. I would sit on trains and stay in other people's houses and take food from whatever shops I could find it in. Life would be very different. I think a new morality would soon develop in a lawless society, probably one based around guns and violence and power (much as, ultimately, this one is) whereby new social groups with their own set of codes and laws would become established.
I think the important point is that morality (and the moral code of the law) has a far more wide-reaching impact on society than religion. Thank you x

You have terrible spelling.
There are some basic questions to ask before this can be answered.
-Is there a God, an all powerful creator of everything?
-Is this God interacting at all with creation?
-How do you learn about this God?
You are talking heaven, hell, prayer, and God (singular). That means you are referring to one of two religions: Islam or Christianity.
Islams book is the Quran. Christianities book is the bible. In them you can read what their respective prophets of the (singular) God say about heaven, hell, and the power of prayer.
So your question about what if there isnt hell or heaven is more a question of "If your book is wrong is your God still right".
This is a question of belief. You arent qualified to assert there is or isnt a hell and there is or isnt a heaven. Those arent under the purvue of science, or anything but religion. The religious books are already written and if you believe the book then you believe it.
If you are going to write your own book, and convince people to follow it, then you might have to ask yourself that if there actually is a God, and he actually did send prophets to write the Bible or Quran and you are saying they are wrong, how is it going to be between you and God. You wanna butt heads and have beef with an all-powerful creator of the universe thats between you and God.
You want to ask me what the book that I believe in says, thats a different question.

I know without a doubt that heaven is real, but if God told me that I was to go to hell because I have sinned too many times, I would still give the worship he is due because he is still God and he deserves the praise.
Thankfully Jesus takes me as I am and I'm going to heaven and the arms of my beloved saviour.

Hello,
I would say yes. Because before i was even a Christian i was very good towards strangers and people i meet everyday.
I would still be grateful for my life and the experiences but, i will question the fact why bad things happens to good people on a regular basis.

well..we should not do anything expecting something good in return like going to heaven. Doing good goes along way...helps others and makes you feel better.
There may be a god ..maybe their isn't..who knows (until they are dead)...there may be a heaven (a garden amongst starts?) or a hell (down among the earth's Magma?) who knows?
Do to others as you want others to do to you..... would you want anything bad heppening to you? Nope. So......yes....I will keep doing and trying to be good!

Of course! If I stop praying to GOD, how am I going to get the peace that I feel now? Who is going to comfort me when I am sad, worried, anxious, frightened? Who is going to heal me when I am sick mentally and physically? Who is going to fill my life with love that I am able to love eveybody that I meet?
I will still not do bad things because doing bad things ALWAYS bring bad consequences.

question is whether there are heavens and hells for animals.
How they behave. Even for animals there are motivations and punishments in this world; I am not specif about the life after how we would meet them in heaven.
Without motivation and /or fear of punishment I would not be as good as I am today.
Had there been no rewards and punishments in the life after, people would have maximised their instant consumption; It would have been a chaotic situation.
